Play has resumed in the Strangers in the Night, following a seating redraw. The field is now down to 16 players on two tables, each of them eyeing the big money at the top of the prize list.

Mohammadamin Khalilian has managed to maintain his chip led but will have to stay sharp to fend off the rest of the field.

After the seemingly endless hand-for-hand play on the money bubble, the field in the Strangers in the Night was quickly reduced to only 20 players.

As play resumes in level 21, there are three players who have set themselves apart from the field, each with stacks of more than a million in chips, while most others find themselves below the chip average. Longtime tournament leader Robert Gariepy was recently dethroned by Mohammadamin Khalilian, who managed to chip up significantly during the last level of play.

After more than an hour of hand-for-hand play, the remaining players in the Strangers in the Night have finally reached the money.

It is not uncommon for the bubble to drag out in some tournaments, however, today’s bubble was truly exceptional. Although many players had spots where they were at risk, the at-risk player kept coming out ahead. Until, finally, a battle of the blinds sent a short stack to the rail. In this case, it was looking good for the short stack both before the flop and on the flop, as he managed to make a pair, however, the turn brought in the bigger stack’s gutshot straight draw and burst the money bubble in the process.

    May 4, 2019 | 1:53pm | Playground

With one level of play in the books on Day 2, the players in the field of Day 2 of the Strangers in the Night have brought a determined and focused approach to this afternoon’s flight. The prospect of a five-figure payout for the eventual champion is clearly on everyone’s mind.

Although a few players have already hit the rail, the field still stands 64 strong, now less than 20 places away from the money bubble.

Here’s a look at some of the players from the first level of play:

It’s time for Day 2 of the Strangers in the Night

The marquee event of the May Power Weekend, the $150 + $25 Strangers in the Night, continues this afternoon with Day 2 of this three-day event. In all, 370 entries were registered for this event, more than enough to surpass the $50,000 prize pool guarantee.

When the action starts at 1:00pm, there will be 76 players involved at the outset of the ten levels of play scheduled for today. Day 3 will be Sunday May 5, at 1:00pm.

    That’s a wrap for Event #2 Day 1’s

    May 4, 2019 | 4:22am | Playground

The last of three flights of Day 1’s for Event #2 Strangers in the Night $125 + $25 is over. Tonight’s flight logged a total of 173 entries, including 20 re-entries. Things started off with a bang and it only took a few levels to reach 100 entries. A few players having already bagged chips in the previous Day 1 flights were seen at the tables, trying to secure a larger stack for Day 2.

During the early levels, the action was steady, and the air was buzzing with the sound of chips and players chatting. As is often the case in re-entry tournaments, the players took more risks until the end of the late registration period. Once it became impossible to re-enter, there was a noticeable shift in the action, and the elimination rate abated. A clear sign that the players were getting more selective, and taking more calculated chances. There was no monster stack tonight, and quite a few of the chip leaders maintained their edge throughout the evening.

With a whopping 4,325,000 chips in play, we expected some players to dump huge amounts of chips into their bags. But it did not go down that way; Marco Dickner is the top gun tonight, having sealed a very respectable 338,500 chips. Breathing down his neck are his two closest rivals, Vsevolod Malamud (275,500) and Mohammadamin Khalilian (272,500). Only two other players managed to bag more than 200,000 chips: Atbin Abbasianafrapoli (237,500) and Frederic Laurin Fortin (225,000). After all was said and done, Richard Gariepy, who played this afternoon’s Day 1B, remains the overall chip leader with a staggering 409,500 chips waiting for him tomorrow.

A total of 370 entries were logged during the thee Day 1’s, 95 Thursday night, 102 this afternoon and 173 tonight. At the end of level 14 tonight, 36 players managed to bag chips. They will join the 40 players that qualified through Day 1A and 1B. Everyone will be back tomorrow at 1:00pm for Day 2, when they will resume battle after a complete seating redraw, and play for 10 levels. Day 3 will be Sunday May 5th, at 1:00pm.

The combined results of Day 1’s combined will can be found here.

Mohammadamin Khalilian and Alfonsi Pio have managed to protect their respective leads and Vsevolod Malamud makes his first appearance.
