Day 1F: Noy U. becomes the overall Day 1 chip leader

    August 25, 2019 | 2:29am | Playground

That’s a wrap for Day 1F of the Colossus. With a total of 321 runners today, 49 players bagged and tagged to move on to day 2. All players who made it to Day 2 are now guaranteed a min-cash of $600, and if any players play more than 1 Day and bag multiple bags, they will play their largest stack and receive a min-cash for each additional bag.

The last hand of play saw Shailesh Patel shove pocket tens (10 of Diamonds 10 of Spades), only to walk into pocket kings (King of Diamonds King of Spades) held by local Noy U. The board ran out 7 of Diamonds 8 of Clubs 6 of Hearts 2 of Diamonds King of Clubs, giving Noy a set on the river, and putting Patel into the unfortunate position of being the Day 1F bubble boy. This boosted Noy’s stack to 439,000, making him the overall Day 1 chip leader. It now remains to be seen if any player can top that in one of the last three starting flights taking place on Sunday.

Other big stacks from tonight’s flight include: Rasvan Rimniceanu, Rami Hammoud, Sebastian Tejada, Weituoxin Wu, and William Pettersen, to just name a few. To see the combined Day 1 results with chip counts, click here (tonight’s results will be entered sometime late on Sunday morning).

ALERT: POSSIBLE OVERLAY! THIS IS YOUR FINAL CHANCE!

There have so far been 2,043 players in the various Day 1 starting flights. A total of 3,300 players are required for the tournament to hit the $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool. There are still three more flights tomorrow, Sunday, with Day 1G starting at 12:00pm, and Day 1h at 4:30pm, and the last flight, Day 1I, a turbo flight, taking place at 9:00pm. Take advantage of this outstanding value!

    Last hand of play:

Day 1F and overall chip leader: Noy U.

it is now coming down to the wire as with only 55 players remaining and with the top 49 moving on the Day 2, play is now becoming very tight as everyone wants to stay alive. The big stacks are of course taking advantage of the situation and over the last 30 minutes, they have been calling the shoves by the small stacks that are left in the room. The big stacks are running good as they keep eliminating the small stack shoves and not letting them double-up.

William Pettersen has chipped up again and is well over 300,000, as is Ian Monahoyios who is also over 300,000. Other big stacks include Rami Hammoud, Daren Keyes, and Sebastian Tejada.

Some recent bustouts include: Cedric Meyer, Ki Nam, Scott Hayes, Ross Hanak, Mathieu Caron, Stephanie Goertz, Denis Dufour and Jennifer Hargreaves.

Here are some of the other players still in the running:

The players just returned from the third break of the evening and it has become a super tight race between all of the players who are at the top of the leaderboard. Where as some of the big stacks have dropped, and we have lost a few notables too, with only 93 players left in contention, and an average stack of 69,000, Aaron Parsons is in the lead with 159,300 chips, followed closely by Daniel Ozanick (157,200) and Rami Hammoud (157,100). It is quite obviously still anyone’s game and over the next few levels, stack sizes are expected to change considerably as the short stacks will be in shove mode.

Some of the players who have hit the rail over the last few levels include: Michel Fournier, Jonathan Rioux, Min Qiu, Armry Senat, Tomas Larivee Magni, Brian Pinheiro Lopez, Marcel-Andre Peroval, and Johan Levyssohn.

Last year’s event champion, Jason Mandanici-Turcot has been under the radar tonight but is still in the field and making some moves. He definitely has the savoir faire to chip up, so let’s see how it pans out for him tonight.

Over the last level it seems as if there have been pocket rockets happening on table after table. The amazing part of it all is that the hands are holding and winning the hand. Amazing.

On table 81, action folded to Alain Neveu in the cutoff position who opened for 3,800. Both the button and the small blind folded, and when Denis Dufour looked down at his hand in the big blind, he moved all in. Neveu snap called.

Dufour: Ace of Clubs King of Spades
Neveu: Ace of Spades Ace of Hearts

The board came 5 of Spades 4 of Diamonds Queen of Diamonds 8 of Clubs 10 of Clubs and Neveu more than doubled his stack. Dufour is now sitting with less than six bigs.

Two players on table 76 were getting short and needed to find a spot to get their chips in. Richard Redmond open shoved UTG for his last 18,000. It folded around the table until Min Qiu flat called in the small blind. The big blind folded and the hands were opened.

Remond: King of Spades King of Diamonds
Qiu: Ace of Hearts Ace of Clubs

Both players had picked up premiums for sure, but Redmond’s timing could not have been worse. The flop came 5 of Hearts 3 of Hearts 9 of Diamonds and Redmond still had two outs two times. The Ace of Spades on the turn however changed all that and locked up the win for Qiu. The 7 of Spades on the river was of no consequence.

Redmond wished everyone good luck and said “at least if I am going to lose with KK, I am losing to AA”.

The late registration and re-entry period have come to a close and the final numbers are in: tonight’s Day 1F flight attracted a total of 321 players (including a whopping 76 re-entries), bringing the total of all Day 1 flights to date to just over 2,000 players. Considering there are still three more starting flights tomorrow (Sunday) which are traditionally the largest flights of the week, Event #1 is shaping up up to be a tremendous success.

The average chip stack at the break was 37,800, and once again, William Pettersen is in the lead with almost five times the average, sitting on 190,400. Followed behind Pettersen is local grinder Ariel Sherker with 110,200 chips. The battle is heating up throughout the room and there are many players now that are double the average (or more).

Some of the recent bustouts include: Warren Chu, Ryan Tjong, Robert Aho, Ian Herkert, Andrew Power, Michael Husted, John Goldner, Kris Steinbach, Fadi Haddad and Tu Kham Tran.

It’s nice to win a hand. It’s even nicer to flop quads and lock it up on the flop in a four-way pot.

On table 81, action folded to William Billot in the hijack seat who limped in, followed by another limp from Pierre-Marc Hache in the cutoff. Michael Golzman, seated on the button had lost some chips and decided to move all in for his last 4,525. The small blind folded and Sylvie Moscuto-Laflamme flat called in the big blind. Both Billot and Hache flat called as well.

On a 554 flop, Moscuto-Laflamme checked as did Billot. Hache then shoved and Moscuto-Laflamme made the call for less. Billot folded and moved out of the way.

Golzman was holding Q4 and was hoping he was going against AK/AQ/AJ kind of hands and that his 4 might be good enough, but to his dismay, Moscuto-Laflamme had pocket fives and had flopped quads. Hache was holding AQ and Moscuto-Laflamme had as nice increase to her stack!

The crowd keeps getting larger and larger and the re-entries keep happening. There are now 242 entries (and 32 re-entries) with another two full hours before the re-entry and late registration periods come to an end.

With an average chip stack hovering around 25,000, only one player has broken the 100,000 mark: William Pettersen has more than five times the average stack, sitting on an impressive 131,700 chips, well ahead of Armry Senat in second place, who currently has 77,000 chips.

The tournament is now up to 235 entries (with 28 re-entries) and it looks like the trend will continue right up to the end of the late registration and re-entry period at 9:00pm. There is still plenty of time to join the action, and with the slow structure and a $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool, the incentive is definitely there!

Malik Lefty got into trouble and had lost a considerable amount of chips and decided to try to steal the blinds, moving all in for 8,500. Guillaume Comtois woke up with a hand and made the call, while the rest of the players moved out of the way.

Lefty: King of Hearts 10 of Diamonds
Comtois: Ace of Hearts King of Diamonds

The board ran out 2 of Clubs 8 of Diamonds 5 of Clubs Jack of Hearts Ace of Clubs and lefty was sent to the rail while Comtois continues to chip up.
