    Andrew Pantling takes the trophy

    May 20, 2019May 22, 2019 | 7:49pm | Playground

Event #3, the $25,000 + $300 Super High Roller, has just crowned a champion: Andrew Pantling, from Toronto, Ontario. There were eight entries in total, including two re-entries.

There were only a total of six entries on Day 1, including one re-entry (Andrew Pantling). The players were:

    • Niall Farrell
    • Marc Macdonnell
    • Philipp Gruissem
    • Manig Loeser
    • Andrew Pantling

After losing Marc Macdonnell early on in the evening, and then Niall Farrell later on, who was coolered twice through the night, all three remaining players bagged for Day 2. Andrew Pantling re-entered early in Day 1 and it proved to be a good investment, as he bagged the largest stack of the three players.

When Day 2 started, Rainer Kempe joined in on the action, but he unfortunately was out after just one level of play. Manig Loeser also had decided to re-enter today, but ultimately fell short and was sent to the rail.

Philipp Gruissem won some key hands after putting his chips in when he was behind, as he found the right magic to hit the board and cripple his opponents. Andrew Pantling, who had never played with Gruissem before, played an aggressive game and was the end of day chip leader on Day 1, and, once play went heads-up today, he started to gain a lot of ground on Gruissem.

On the last hand of play, with the blinds at 25,000/50,000, Gruissem raised from the button to 125,000, and was met by a 3-bet by Pantling to 300,000. Gruissem responded by shoving the rest of his stack (1,235,000 in total) and Pantling made the call.

Gruissem: Ace of Spades Jack of Clubs
Pantling: 10 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds

Board runout: 7 of Clubs 4 of Spades King of Diamonds 2 of Hearts 8 of Spades, and Andrew Pantling was crowned the Event #3, $25,000 + $300 Super High Roller Champion.

Event #3 Champion, Andrew Pantling, $144,000

    Second Place: Philipp Gruissem, $50,000

Players have just taken a short break and the clock has been paused. Andrew Pantling, the Day 1 chip leader, is back in the lead, with a three times advantage over Gruissem.

    • Andrew Pantling 6,105,000
    • Philipp Gruissem 1,895,000

Here is the trophy that will be going to the Event Champion, as well as to the Champions in the other side events. Tomorrow we will post a photo of the trophy for the MILLIONS North America main event.

Play didn’t last long for Rainer Kempe. Literally 15 minutes after he jumped into the tournament, he busted out.  It happened so fast that we are not able to get any details of how the bustout hand happened.

Manig Loeser then got into a hand heads up with Philipp Gruissem that ended up sending him to the rail as well. Manig was holding 10 of Clubs 7 of Spades and Philipp had Queen of Hearts 8 of Spades. The flop came 7 of Hearts 6 of Hearts 5 of Clubs, giving Manig top and Gruissem a flush draw.

The turn brought the Queen of Spades and Gruissem jumped into the lead with top pair. The 3 of Spades on the river did not change anything for Manig and all of the sudden play has gone heads-up. Philipp has been running very good on both Day 1 and Day 2, and there is no question, a run good always helps.

Both players discussed making a deal and have decided to each take $50,000, and play on to a winner for the remaining $94,000 in the prize pool.

    Chip counts:

    Philipp Gruissem: 4,040,000

    Andrew Pantling: 3,960,000

Rainer Kempe, one of the most successful of all of the German pros, has just jumped into the event, and Manig Loeser has decided to re-enter, so, the tournament is now four handed and the cards are back in the air. The tournament staff and the players have discussed the dynamic, and have decided to now close the late registration period and have the tournament now play out to a winner. The format will be “winner takes all“, although when heads-up the players can decided  if they want to discuss some type of deal. The total amount in the prize pool is $194,000!

Andrew Pantling (from Toronto, Ont) commented “wow, I’m the lone Canadian in this German Super High Roller table”. Representing Canada, eh!

Here is The Hendon Mob profile info on Rainer Kempe:

    • Total live cashes: $20,249,484

Loeser limped the button and was raised by Gruissem in the small blind, Pantling got out of the way in the big, and when action returned to Loeser he 3-bet jammed, and Gruissem made the call.

Loeser had AQ and Gruissem called with AJ…and as bad luck would have it for Loeser, a Jack came out, sending Loeser to the rail.

Since there are only two players remaining, the floor has paused the clock for 1 hour, after which play will resume.

Today is day 2 of Event #3, the $25,000 + $300 Super High Roller. The players start with 1,000,000 chips, blind levels are 45 minutes in length until the tournament goes heads-up, at which point they change to 30 minutes, and play continues until a champion is crowned.

There were only a total of six entries today in Day 1, including one re-entry (Andrew Pantling). After losing Marc Macdonnell early on in the evening, and then Niall Farrell later on, all three remaining players bagged for Day 2. Andrew Pantling re-entered early in the evening and it proved to be a good investment, at least so far, as he bagged the largest stack of the three players.

As many of the pros who play high rollers and super high rollers have only arrived in Montreal late yesterday afternoon or evening, we expect to see another 20-30 entries (and some re-entries) take place today in Day 2.

Here are the chip counts of the three players bagging in Day 1:

    • Andrew Pantling 3,690,000
    • Philipp Gruissem 1,495,000
    • Manig Loeser 815,000

Loeser, Gruissem, and Pantling bag for Day 2

    May 20, 2019May 20, 2019 | 2:09am | Playground

Day 1 of Event #3, the $25000 + $300 Super High Roller, has just wrapped up. This is a two day event, with late registration open until the start of level 13 on Day 2, at 4:15pm.

Niall Farrell had an evening of “run bad” as he was coolered twice, the first time after having flopped a Broadway straight and then losing to Pantling’s boat on the river, and then later on losing with QQ after Philipp Gruissem had 4-bet shoved with 88, only to have the board run out a straight for the pocket 8’s. Niall may be re-entering the tournament tomorrow, as his options are still open.

As many of the pros who play high rollers and super high rollers have only arrived in Montreal this afternoon or evening, we expect to see another 20-30 entries (and some re-entries) take place tomorrow on Day 2. It should be a great day of poker! Blind levels will play on the eight handed tables for 45 minutes, and then move to 30 minutes once heads up play begins, and then play out until a champion is crowned.

Talking to Gruissem at the end of the flight, we asked about the dynamic of playing a super high roller three handed for most of the night, and he replied “it’s actually tough as it becomes quite tiring since the action is non-stop, putting you into the blinds every minute or two. It was even hard to eat supper while playing since you were almost always in a hand”.  That will surely change on Day 2, which promises to be an action filled day of tournament poker, featuring some of the best players from around the globe.

Here are the chip counts of the three players bagging in Day 1:

    • Andrew Pantling 3,690,000
    • Philipp Gruissem 1,495,000
    • Manig Loeser 815,000

Niall Farrell was nursing the smallest stack on the table after losing a big hand against Pantling earlier on. We didn’t see the action but were told that he finally picked up a premium hand, and when Gruissem opened the action. Farrell 3-bet, only to be met by a 4-bet shove by Gruissem. Farrell snap called the shove of close to 680,000, and he opened up his hand to show pocket Queens. Gruissem had a pair of eights. It seemed like a dream spot for Farrell.

As fate would have it, the board ran out in the worst way possible for Farrell as Gruissem made a straight. Farrell decided to call it a night, although he still has the option of re-entering right up until the end of the late registration period on Day 2, which is at 4:15pm.

Earlier on, Farrell lost a big pot against Pantling on a dirty river. Farrell was holding JT and flopped Broadway on Queen of Hearts Ace of Spades King of Clubs flop. He check-called the flop bet by Pantling. He then again check-called the bet when the 6 of Spades turned, and once again, checked when the Queen of Spades fell on the river. Pantling thought it about for some time, and then put in a bet of 480,000, which Farrell snap called. Unfortunately for Farrwell, Pantling had AQ, flopping two pair and boating up on the river.

Pantling is now way ahead of the others, however, with the blinds only at 7,000/14,000, there is still a ton of play ahead and there is a long way to go.

Speaking with the partypoker LIVE manager onsite, he had mentioned that in the Super High Roller that played in Rio, they only had a field of nine players on Day 1, however, it mushroomed to 42 players on Day 2. His expectations are that since many of the pros are only landing in Montreal this evening, quite a few should join the field for the Day 2 action. This tournament is long from over and day 2 should bring a lot of exciting action.

Well know German pro Philipp Gruissem has just sat down in seat 3, so the table is now four handed. Gruissem has 61 cashes on the Hendon Mob going back as far as 2011.  He is known to be a beast on the felt, and will certainly bring some exciting action to this single table Super High Roller.

The tournament director and the three players who registered have jointly decided to put the cards in the air and get the tournament started. Maria Ho was about to register but in the end, she said that she’s worried the players may start drinking and instead of playing the Super High Roller, she decided to register for the $1000 + $100 Montreal Open (Event #2). Chatting with Niall Farrell earlier on, he assured me that although he had a few pints at the table last night in the $1000 + $100 Montreal Open, tonight in the Super High Roller he won’t be looking to tie one on.

Here is a littler info about the three entrants to the $25,000 + $300 Super High Roller.
