Malik Lefty got into trouble and had lost a considerable amount of chips and decided to try to steal the blinds, moving all in for 8,500. Guillaume Comtois woke up with a hand and made the call, while the rest of the players moved out of the way.

Lefty: King of Hearts 10 of Diamonds
Comtois: Ace of Hearts King of Diamonds

The board ran out 2 of Clubs 8 of Diamonds 5 of Clubs Jack of Hearts Ace of Clubs and lefty was sent to the rail while Comtois continues to chip up.

When we arrived at table 22 just now, the board had already been dealt 4 of Spades 6 of Spades 8 of Spades 5 of Spades 5 of Diamonds and there were only two players left in the hand. The action was to Matthew Witterick, and after a few moments of contemplation he tossed in 9,500 chips.

Michael Khan had some thinking to do. Although we were not present to see how the hand had originally unfolded, suffice it to say that there was a lot of danger for both players on the board. Not only was there a 4-card straight flush on the table, but the river 5 of Diamonds held the potential to complete a full house as well.

In the end, Michael risked it and called. Matthew flipped over his Ace of Spades 10 of Diamonds and the nut flush ended up being enough to take it down. Play continues…

Welcome the Day 1F of the Colossus $300+$30 tournament featuring a $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool. There are already 100 players in their seats and people are entering the tournament room minute by minute. Players start with 20,000 chips and play through 30 minute levels until only 15% of the field remains. There are unlimited re-entries available until the closing of the late registration period, which at 9:00pm.

There have been over 1,700 players so far and there are still three more starting flights tomorrow, Sunday. Players who make it through to Day 2 will be in the money with a guaranteed $600 min-cash. Any player who bags more than once will play their largest stack on Day 2, and will receive a $600 min0-cash for each additional stack.

Richard Shamshoum leads the pack after 8 levels

With an average chip stack of 39,000, Richard Shamshoum is sitting pretty on top of the pile with 130,000 chips.

And now that registration is officially closed, we can say with certainty this flight of the $300 + $30 Colossus will only end when the field is reduced to 51 players. With 171 currently seated, we need to see 120 elimination to get there. Let the true battle begin!

Worth noting: None of the leading players at the first break made the list of chip leaders at the second break. It’s anyone’s game!

Registration is closing soon for Day 1E

At this point we have already seen 324 entries to the noon flight of the $300 + $30 Colossus, including 52 re-entries. That means that in just the last few hours we’ve collected almost $100,000 to put towards the guaranteed $1,000,000 prize pool. Not bad for half of a Saturday afternoon!

And because play will continue until the field is reduced to 15% of it’s total size (after registration closes at 4:30pm), we expect to see about 50 players qualify for Day 2 from this flight. Of the 324 entries today, only 203 players are still at their seats playing, so if you were to join right at the end of the late registration period (in the next thirty minutes), all you would have to do is outlast 150 players to move on!

Those aren’t bad odds, especially considering the fact that the average chip stack is only 31,000 at the moment (and players begin with 20,000 chips). Are you feeling lucky? Do you think you could skip the first four hours and make the cut? There’s only one way to find out….

That said, if you prefer to grind out a full day of play, you can always wait for the next live flight (Day 1F), which also starts at 4:30pm. Either way, good luck to all!

Just a few minutes ago we hit the 300-mark for attendance in Day 1E, and by 4:30pm this afternoon, when the second live flight of the day kicks off, we expect Playground to be completely full, with every single table in the tournament hall and the cash game room filled to capacity.

It’s going to be so busy in fact that we’ve opened up our extra tent to handle the overflow of players. We’ve already started filling up that room, with a few tables already seated. We timed it, and it takes just under 90 seconds to walk there from the main tournament hall. Thankfully, the Playground crew also set up a bar, television screens and bathroom right next to the tent for convenience.

As we were passing through the crowded tournament room here at Playground taking photos, one of our east coast favorites Ernest Kelly (below, right) waved us down, pointing to a notable hand that had just been played on his table, number 24.

That’s right, you’re seeing it correctly: trip-Jacks were beaten by a royal flush. The lucky winner of that hand was Jared McDonald, pictured below (left). He might be wondering if he should simply pack up his things and head home early, having used up all of his luck for the day during the first few hands.  We’ll keep an eye on Mr. McDonald and see if his luck holds up!

It may only be early in the afternoon, but Playground is already buzzing. More than 250 players have already taken their seats, and there will be plenty more to come.

Here are a few photos of our competitors as they take the first steps to claiming their piece of the guaranteed $1,000,000 prize pool. The traffic may be bad out on the island, but at Playground things are flowing quite nicely!

Come down and join in for your chance at a big payday.

    It’s time for Day 1E!

    August 24, 2019August 24, 2019 | 12:08pm | Playground

Event #1 of the WSOP-C Playground, the $300 + $30 Colossus, rolls on this afternoon with what promises to be another busy starting flight for this exciting event.

The players will take to the felts with starting stacks of 20,000 in chips to battle it out until only 15% of the starting field remains. All starting flights for the Colossus allow for unlimited re-entries and provide an extended late registration and re-entry period that will allow players to (re-)join the action until the beginning of the ninth level of play at 4:30pm.

With eight starting flights already in the books for the Colossus, there have been nearly 1,400 entries, and 209 players have already secured their spots in Day 2. Players can enter multiple starting flights; should they qualify for Day 2 more than once, they will resume play with their largest stack and receive the associated cash prize for any other qualifying stacks, which will be forfeited. There will be lots of chips in play this afternoon, making this flight a great opportunity for players to improve on qualifying stacks from previous flights.

Play is now underway. Good luck to all!

Paradis bags the largest Day 1D stack to become the overall Day 1 chip leader

    August 24, 2019August 24, 2019 | 2:10am | Playground

Day 1D attracted 226 runners of which 34 bagged and tagged for Day 2 that will take place Monday at 12:00pm. All players who made it to Day 2 are now guaranteed a min-cash of $600, and if any players play more than 1 Day and bag multiple bags, they will play their largest stack and receive a min-cash for each additional bag.

The last hand of play saw Kevin Javier get it in with Jack of Diamonds Jack of Hearts, getting a call from Richard Paradis holding King of Spades 10 of Spades. The flop came 6 of Spades Ace of Diamonds Queen of Spades giving Paradis a flush draw, and the 8 of Spades on the turn sealed the deal, making Paradis his flush to knock out Javier on the bubble. The river 8 of Clubs didn’t change a thing.

Paradis was tonight’s chip leader with 434,500 chips, which makes him the overall leader to date from all combined flights. To see the combined Day 1 results with chip counts, click here (tonight’s results will be entered sometime late on Saturday morning).

There are still two more flights tomorrow, Saturday, with Day 1E starting at 12:00pm, and Day 1F at 4:30pm. Sunday is your last chance to take a shot at the $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool, with Day 1G starting at 12:00pm, Day 1H at 4:30pm, and the last flight, Day 1I, a turbo flight, taking place at 9:00pm.

    Last hand of play:

Overall chip leader of all Day 1 flights: Richard Paradis

The field has dropped to 35 players of which the last 34 will bag and tag and move onward to Day 2 on Monday with a guaranteed min-cash of $600. There are a few short stacks so it remains to be seen who becomes the unfortunate bubble boy.

Here are some of the remaining players who have considerable stacks on the bubble:
