Day 1 of Event #6, The $10,000 + $300 High Roller, has just wrapped up for the day. The players started with 1,000,000 chips and played through eight 60 minute levels on eight handed tables. The tournament offers amazing value as there is a slow blind structure allowing for late entry, as well as re-entry, and the prize pool is a guaranteed $1,000,000!

Late registration is open right up to the start of Level 13 on Day 2, which is at 5:30pm on Friday, so there is plenty of time to jump into the action. There is expected to be a lot of new entries on Day 2, and there will most likely be many re-entries as well due to the great prize pool and relatively small field. This is one tournament that any serious tournament player does not want to miss. Day 2 starts tomorrow at 1:00pm, and Day 3 will wrap up the action on Saturday at 1:00pm.

There was a great turnout in today’s Day 1, with a total of 52 entries (including 14 re-entries). Some of the best names in the business mixed it up with many experienced amateur grinders who were all battling it out on the felt, and as the chips moved around, the lead changed throughout the day. At the end of play, 28 players bagged and tagged to return for Day 2 action. The top stack in play belongs to James Romero, who bagged 4,320,000.

Below are the stacks of each player who will be returning for Day 2 action.

The tournament is on the last level of the night, and James Romero still appears to have the top stack in play. Other top stacks include:

    • Anton Morgenstern
    • Lauren Roberts
    • David Lopez
    • Martin Raus

Mario Ho has lost some ground, but still sitting close to average. Niall Farrell has just re-entered, along with some new entries in the last level or two, including:

    • Jonathan Conception Tacoronte
    • Jakob Miegel
    • Alan Schein
    • Rainer Kempe
    • Carla Sabini
    • Alexandru Papazian
    • Hannes Speiser

We will update the chip counts once Day 1 ends following the conclusion of this level.

Meanwhile, Martin Raus and Jamie Sequeira are having a blast while playing the High Roller, the wine has been flowing on their table and there has been a lot of laughter. It seems like fun, but it obviously makes it a bit challenging for their table mates.

Jamie Sequeira just got into a hand with Anton Morgenstern and kept trying so hard to make a read on him, and finally, he decided to lay down his hand after the Ace hit on the turn. Jamie showed a Jack, and begged Anton to show at least one card. Finally Anton let him pick a card; it was an Ace, and Jamie danced around, so happy to have made his fold!

The race is still tight at the top and John Hewgill is still up there, but we do have a new leader now: James Romero is the top dawg, with more than double the average, sitting on 3,356,000 chips. Maria Ho is hot on his heels with a stack of 3,103,000. With 47,000,000 total chips in play, and with still 6 more levels of late registration still open, the lead is sure to keep changing and it is still anyone’s game.

During the last break we once again looked for the bosses of the tournament, trying to see who had the largest stacks in the room. John Hewgill, our chip leader at the first break, is still holding the number one spot, however, the race is literally neck and neck, with London, UK based David Lopez right behind him, and Lauren Roberts and Maria Ho just a few chips behind Lopez. This may be one of the tightest leaderboards we have seen is some time.

The tournament is now up to 40 entries (including 8 re-entries) and there are still 32 left in the running. The bustouts include:

    • Brian Yoon
    • Pierre-Paul Paulin
    • Hamidreza Kamali
    • Jeffrey Cormier
    • (two other players have re-entered multiple times and are still in the running)

Arriving at table 62, Richard Kirsch and Jeff Cormier were heads up on a 5 of Clubs 3 of Spades 3 of Clubs flop and the action went check-check. The turn brought the 6 of Diamonds and Cormier led out for 60,000, only to be met by a re-raise by Kirsch to 200,000. Cormier paused before announcing that he was all in. Kirsch made the call.

Kirsch: King of Spades 3 of Hearts

Cormier: 10 of Clubs 7 of Clubs

Kirsch had flopped trip 3’s and Cormier was drawing to a gutshot straight as well as a flush draw. The river 9 of Diamonds was a brick for Cormier and since Kirsch had him covered, Cormier headed back to the cage to re-enter.

On table 60 the dealer flashed the 2 of Clubs while dealing to Niall Farrell in the small blind and then replaced the card. Action ended up folding to Farrell and he completed his option. Daniel Rezaei checked his option in the big blind.

The flop came King of Diamonds 10 of Hearts 10 of Spades and Farrell led out with a bet. Rezaei smiled and said “fold” and showed Niall a deuce, saying “I would have raised it up pre if that other deuce didn’t get flashed”. Niall smiled back, then also opened up a deuce to show to Rezaei.

There will be aother break in just under 15 minutes which will give us a chance to update the leaderboard. There are now a total of 35 entries (including five re-entries) with still 30 players remaining in contention.
