Event #6 is now playing hand for hand. The action is tough on both tables, each with its own ruthless captain. Anatoly Filatov has taken the habit of simply grabbing a full $10M stack and pushing it forward anytime he gets involved – he had over 20M total – knowing that it would cover anyone else and that the gesture is always +EV on the eve of reaching the prizes. Charles LB managed to snap him on one of those times, having completed his small blind with a pair of jacks and snapped the all-in, but Filatov didn’t take long to make that back from the community.

Pierre-Paul Paulin is crushing the neighbouring table with now over 40M chips!! He leans on anyone who dares invest some chips and even finds some crushing spots:

Sergio Aido Espina: Queen of Diamonds Queen of Spades
Pierre-Paul Paulin: King of Diamonds King of Clubs

Board: 10 of Clubs Jack of Diamonds Ace of Hearts Queen of Clubs 8 of Hearts

This pot was played pre-flop. Paulin was in the big blind, and his 3bet passed for another shameless aggression. Espina finished in 13th place. The High Roller is now on the bubble.

John Hewgill, who started the day with just over 2 million chips, was quickly taken out by Sergio Aido Espina. Hewgill decided to move in on a flop that would have missed most combination of high cards, but his opponent was made:

Hewgill: 7 of Hearts 7 of Spades
Espina: Ace of Diamonds Ace of Hearts

Board: 8 of Spades 4 of Spades 10 of Hearts 5 of Clubs King of Clubs

Hewgill goes out in 16th. Manig Loeser, sitting at the same table, also left after losing a hand that we missed. Bartolomiej Machon was moved to that table to balance them out.

Let’s crown a High Roller champion

    May 25, 2019May 25, 2019 | 12:58pm | Playground

After 2 days of intense poker, the High Roller event is down to 16 players. Eleven of them will get paid today, and the champion will win $300,000, on top of the magnificent MILLIONS trophy and the High Roller title.

Play resumes at blinds 60K/120K/120K, and 60-minute levels will be played until one player has all the chips. Pierre-Paul Paulin had an amazing run so far, putting tremendous pressure on his opponents with the help of his giant stack. We will see if he can keep up the pace!

Two tables of 8 players and some high class poker. Play starts at 1:00PM sharp. Stay tuned!

Day 3 seating draw and chip counts

    May 25, 2019 | 12:37pm | Playground

The stage is set for Day 3 of Event #6, the High Roller. After two days of play, 102 entries have been reduced to the 16 finalists who will play for the champion’s trophy this afternoon. Pierre-Paul Paulin holds a hefty chip lead, but any player still in the running has a legitimate shot at taking this one down.

The top 11 finishers will cash this event, so expect the tension to build throughout the afternoon as the field continues to shrink. When play resumes at 1:00pm, the players will be seated according to the following table.

16 return tomorrow for Day 3

    May 25, 2019May 25, 2019 | 1:33am | Playground

After almost 12 hours of intense poker, 16 tired,  but content players dumped their loot in their bags and are heading home for some much needed rest.  By the time the registrations were closed, a total of 102 entries had made their way into the tournament.

If we had to give Day 2 a nickname it would probably be something like “Pierre-Paul Paulin’s Poker-Fest”.  From St-Simon, New Brunswick, Paulin has had a tremendous run here today.  The only time he was not chip leader, was when he sat down this afternoon.  From the first leaderboard, after two levels of play, to the bagging ritual at the end of the evening, Paulin was, and remained, the head honcho.

Here are the players that were sent to the rail with three tables left in the tournament:

    • Lauren Roberts (17th)
    • Rainer Kempe (18th)
    • Jonathan David Concepcion Tacoronte (19th)
    • Peter Daniel Weinand (20th)
    • Hannes Speiser (21st)
    • Peter Christopher Jetten (22nd)
    • Artem Metalidi (23rd)
    • Jiachen Gong (24th)

With no surprise, the top bagger tonight is Pierre-Paul Paulin with over 21 million chips, more than five million ahead of Brian Yoon in second position with 15.5 million chips.

Day 3 action gets underway tomorrow at 1:00pm.  Play will continue eight-handed until there is nine players left.  Then a full redraw will be made for the final table.

With 17 players left, Lauren Roberts went all-in with just under three million chips. She received a quick call from Bartolomiej Machon.  With no more possible action, both players tabled their hands.

Lauren: Ace of Diamonds Jack of Hearts

Bartolomiej: King of Clubs King of Spades

Board: Queen of Diamonds King of Diamonds Queen of Hearts 2 of Clubs 8 of Clubs .  Machon wins with a boat and sends Roberts home in 17th position.

The tournament is down to 16 players, and the clock has been paused in order to allow the tournament director to perform a full redraw.

The top 11 players will be paid and the tournament will stop at the end of this level.

The 18 players are coming back from the last break of the evening. Just before the break, we caught a hand on table #60 involving Peter Daniel Weinand, Hannes Speiser, and Anatolly Fillatov.

The blinds were 35K / 70K and Speiser, holding 7 of Clubs 7 of Hearts, went all-in from the cut-off. On the button, Filatov smooth called with big slick Ace of Spades King of Spades. Big blind Weinand shoved on top for approximately 3.7 million chips, holding cowboys King of Clubs King of Diamonds.  After asking for a count, Filatov quickly made the call.

Filatov: Ace of Spades King of Spades

Speiser: 7 of Clubs 7 of Hearts

Weinand: King of Clubs King of Diamonds

The flop came out: 9 of Diamonds Jack of Clubs Queen of Hearts, Weinand was happy with the over pair for now.  The 7 of Spades on the turn burst  his bubble and he was desperately hopping for the last king of the deck.  Filatov was already shrugging his shoulders, reminding everyone that he never wins with AK over KK.  The river changed everything: 10 of Hearts, allowing top straight to Fillatov and sending Weinand and Speiser to the rail.

We went around the three remaining tables to see who was in the lead.  Not surprising, Paulin is still the chip leader with 18,320,000 chips.  His closest rival is Brian Yoon with 13,255,000.  Rounding out the 8-figure club are Anatolly Filatov and Manig Loeser, with 12,705,00 chips and 10,255,000 chips respectively.

The clock was paused so the tournament personnel could close a table and introduce the shot clocks/time cards.  The players are grinding and being careful with their chip management.  The larger stacks are preying on the smaller ones, as usual, but the blinds are still not too high and allow for some maneuverability.

The last break of the evening is coming up between levels 16 and 17 and we’ll make sure to get an updated chip count.

Some serious poker is being played and everyone has their eye on the prize pool.

It was a heartbreaking end for Jeremy Ausmus. The hand played out between Ausmus and Brian Yoon.  The all-in from Ausmus was approximately 3.3 million chips, and Yoon had north of five million chips to his name.  Both players turned over their cards.

Yoon: 10 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds

Ausmus: Ace of Clubs Ace of Hearts

The board: 2 of Hearts 8 of Clubs 2 of Diamonds 10 of Clubs 2 of Clubs .  The turn card was exactly what Yoon needed to send Ausmus to the rail, in 32nd place.

Soon after that hand, the players took a long break for dinner.  This allowed us to get chip counts from every player. Pierre-Paul Paulin is still going strong and remains the chip leader with 9,735,000 chips.  Brian Yoon, Manig Loeser and Monathan David Concepcion Tacoronte occupy the next three slots on the leader board, and are the only other players above 5,000,000 chips.

The action just got under way and the players are settling in for the last four levels of the evening.
