After 12 fabulous days of poker, the Playground Winter Festival has come to an end. The Winter Festival, which ran from February 27th to March 10th successfully kept the cold of winter at bay, and provided 12 days of fantastic poker action to players from all over Eastern Canada and the Northeastern US.
The festival opened with The Wild $150, which attracted 1441 entries over its three Day 1s and generated a massive prize pool of $188,699.00! At the end of Day 3, 8 players had each won $10K or more, including over $20K for the winner, Jean-Francois Marin!
Event 4 was the next of the “large” events – it ended up awarding a total prize pool of $48,015.00. The event was a $300 + $30 Freeze which had 165 players and awarded $11,500.00 to the winner who was local player Michael Korovine.
The biggest tournament of them all, however, was, of course, the Main Event. With its $1.1K buy-in and $500K guarantee it was certain to be the biggest event of the festival and at the end of play on Monday no one could say they were disappointed. A few players might have liked to finish higher in the standings, but the eventual winner Sergio Vigano played a solid tourney throughout to win the $86,640.00 prize. Congratulations are due also to Hugo Fontaine the runner-up in the Main Event who took home $80K for his efforts – all starting from a seat he won in the monthly TLB Freeroll!
All in all there were a total of 3,440 player entries in the festival across all 15 events and during the 12 days a whopping $867,539 was awarded to players!
Now the calendar turns to Spring and along with it the Playground Poker Spring Classic presented by partypoker.net. This year’s Spring Classic will start on April 19th and features 16 events starting with The Wild $150 and culminating with the end of the partypoker.net WPT Canadian Spring Championship on May 6th 2015. This is the fourth Spring Classic we’ve hosted and it’s almost certain to be the best one yet!
We look forward to seeing everyone in April!
