Poker players from all over Canada and well into the United States have been planning a trip to Montreal for weeks now in anticipation of the 2013 Playground Poker Spring Classic. The wait is finally over and Day 1a and 1b of the $135+$15 No Limit Hold’em Re-Entry Event #1 at Playground Poker Club have already completed, with Day 1c starting tonight at 7:30PM.
The two-week series will bring along with it massive prize pools, 9 bracelets and 2 championship belts. And in case you’re a poker player who’s been living in a cave for the past two months, we’ll remind you that the series will be capped off with the C$3000 + C$300 WPT Canadian Spring Championship Main Event. Based on the overwhelming success of the WPT Montreal in November of 2012, Playground decided to add a Day 1 to this year’s Main Event in anticipation of hitting big numbers, along with a well-balanced schedule of side events.
Notable pros who have confirmed their attendance for the Main Event include WPT Champions and Playground Players Club members Gavin Smith and Phil Laak. Also confirmed is hometown WPT Champion Chanracy Khun who took down the top prize at the WPT Main Event in Barcelona in early April, and the 2012 WPT Montreal Main Event winner Jonathan Roy. ‘It will be great to have the WPT back at our home club here in Kahnawake again,’ stated Khun. ‘It’s obvious that the players here in Montreal and in Canada respond well to big events like this and it’s even better that Playground recognizes this void for large events in our country’ he added.
UFC ring announcer and recent author of a new autobiography Bruce Buffer is making the trip from Vegas to play in the Main, with hopes of a repeat of his success in the WPT Montreal where he cashed for over 17K. Two Montreal hockey icons and good friends, Vincent Damphousse and Guy Carbonneau will also hit the felt, alongside Valerie Ross, Jeff Gross, Trishelle Cannatella, and more.
Not to be outdone by Antonio Esfandiari and Phil Laak’s outrageous off-the-felt antics, it’s been rumored that two of Playground’s most attractive Players Club Members, Valerie Ross and Trishelle Cannatella, have entered into a prop bet at this year’s Spring Classic. It’s unknown at this time what the bet will be based on, but one of the lovely ladies will meet her fate in a dunk tank, similar to what happened to Antonio back in March of 2012. ‘The good thing we have going for us is that it’s not minus ten degrees like it was when Antonio got dunked,’ says Ross. ‘May can still see the occasional cold snap, but Trishelle and I want to start with this bet and take it to a whole new level’ she adds.
