A little over a week ago, local Montreal poker player JP Piquette took down a $50000 dollar first place finish at the 2012 Playground Poker Classic, further bolstering his bankroll and his overall tournament ranking at his local poker club, just outside Montreal. Well, he just hit gold again with another incredible first place finish in the 10K High Rollers event only seven days later earning him an additional $50000 in cash and his second championship belt.
With a small portion of his winnings from his 2K Main Event win, JP bought into a 1k satellite for the Playground Poker Classic 10k High Roller event on the following weekend. The entry paid off for JP as his satellite win earned him and one other player a seat to the big show.
Piquette played along his fellow Players club Team member, Mike ‘Timex’ McDonald who flew in for a second time in two weeks to participate in his second event of the Classic. JPP, who is one of the most recent additions to the Playground Players Club has just been joined by two new local pros in Derek and Aaron Lerner. The three new local pros join the ranks of Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Laak and more recent notable celebrity personality, Bruce Buffer in an elite group of players who represent Playground Poker Club.
The Playground Poker Classic awarded a total of 15 bracelets and not one, but two blinged-up championships belts and a total prize pool amounting to over half a million dollars. ‘We couldn’t be happier with the turnout for this year’s Classic’ notes club COO David Montour. ‘We’ve had such an overwhelming positive response from our players this year and are already ramping up for our next big event’ continues Montour. When asked about specifics, Mr. Montour didn’t give details but said that Playground is close to announcing its summer and fall tournament schedule and poker players are going to be excited about what’s to come.
Playground Poker Club has hosted some of Canada’s most unique poker tournaments including the NLH Faceoff with the Montreal Canadians, The Legends of Hockey Banquet hosted by Jean Beliveau, Yvon Cournoyer and Henri Richard and the Esfandiari and Laak Open, pitting two of poker’s finest head to head in a weekend battle.
