Level seven has just begun and the late registration period has now come to an end. All we can say about the turnout today is: WOW! There are a total of 80 entries (including 12 re-entries) which is just outstanding! The $5,000 guaranteed prize pool has been smashed and has more than doubled (the prize pool will be published shortly).

The competition is fierce and there is some real talent on the felt today. With the average chip stack just over 34,000, two players have bolted to the top: Kitty S. has taken the lead with a cool 80,000 chips, however, Playground regular Kathy Sawers is literally only 100 chips behind her with 79,900! Talk about a tight race!

Following the flop, Brigette Metivier had bet 2,500 and was raised to 5,000 by Kitty S. On the turn, Kitty S. took her all in. Metivier made the call.

Kitty had flopped the flush and Metivier was unfortunately drawing dead. Luckily for Metivier, she had a good tournament start and still has a lot of chips in front of her.

There will be a break coming up offering us the chance to put together the first leaderboard of the day.

The turnout for the first open event of the Women’s Series has 65 women seated at the tables so far, grinding it out to see who can be the first event champion. This event has already doubled the $5,000 guaranteed prize pool! There are local players as well as many who have come from upper New York state, Vermont, Ottawa, Toronto and everywhere else in between! It promises to be a great event and a great series.

Some of the players in attendance include: Cynthia Paquette, Brigitte Metivier (PLN ambassador and Champion of the 2019 Irish Open Women’s Event), Brigette Korak, Diana Shamshoun, Manon Lucsansky, Natalia Nogina, Danielle Schwartz, Brenda Blackburn, Line St-Pierre, Lisa Pedicelli, Louise Brouillette, Vera G., Diane Montour, and Kathy Sawers.

Late registration is open until the start of level 7 at 2:15pm.

Today starts the first open tournament of the Playground Women’s Series!

Playground, in association with the Women’s Poker Association, presents the Playground Women’s Series, a poker series exclusively for women! Players will accumulate points through four open tournaments, held monthly, and try to earn a seat in the Final in January.

Tournament Details

Buy-in: $150 + $15

Guarantee: $5,000

Starting stack: 25,000 chips

Format: Single Re-entry

Blinds: 20 minutes for the first six levels, then 30 minutes levels starting at level 7. Late registration and the single re-entry period will be open as well until the start of level 7.

Series Details

$10 are withheld from each buy-in to make up the Final prize pool.

Top 5 finishers in each open tournament receive a direct entry into the Final.

Top 20% in each open tournament receive points toward the series.

Top 10 point earners receive an entry into the Final.
