McKinnon does it again in Event #12

McKinnon does it again in Event #12

    October 8, 2018December 4, 2018 | Playground

Michael McKinnon has done it again! The winner of Event #4 in this October Power Weekend has now added a second Power Weekend Championship to his list of successes here at Playground Poker Club – he has won Event #12, today’s $90 + $10 + $25 NL Hold’em Bounty tournament. The event attracted 128 players, far surpassing the number required to meet the $5,000 guaranteed prize pool. The solid turnout for the event was matched by the speed it took to play – even with so many players to start, the tournament was in the money by about 5:30pm and the final two tables continued at a steady pace such that the whole tournament was over just after 8:00pm. Heads up play between Michael and Steve Daunier was very interesting, in that Steve had been among the chip leaders for most of the afternoon, and coming to 1-on-1 play, enjoyed […]

Thohahente McComber wins Event #11 Single Rebuy

Thohahente McComber wins Event #11 Single Rebuy

    October 8, 2018December 4, 2018 | Playground

Heads up action between Theo Psihogios and Thohahente McComber lasted only one hand – that’s all McComber needed. No sooner had the dealer set up the table for the heads up action that Theo went all-in. He received a “call” before the echo of his all-in had even abated. Both men turned over their hands with a smile. Theo was by far the shortest stack and had obviously decided to gamble with any hand, before the blinds chewed through his stack. Both hands ended up being quite respectable: Theo: Thohahente: Theo was happy with his top pair on the flop: although he wasn’t thrilled with the hearts. His instincts would prove spot on as the remaining cards put an end to the tournament by giving Thohahente a flush. After a lightening fast heads up we have crowned our winner: Thohahente McComber! Congratulations to all our winners! Thohahente Mccomber – Winner […]

Event #10: Demondehare/Ravary are the winning team!

    October 8, 2018December 4, 2018 | Playground

Heads up action lasted only for a short period, but all the team members got a chance to play. The final hand came when short stack Alexandre Morel was holding as he went all-in. He immediately got a call from Patrice Ravary who tabled The community cards reflected the luck Ravary/Demondehare had received throughout the final table: with the turn giving them an eight-high straight. And that put a close to the memorable Tag Team Event here in the October Power Weekend Event #10. Congratulations to all the winners. The champions: Patrice Ravary (left) and Martin Demondehare (right), $5,255 The winning hand Alexandre Morel and Maxime Turcotte finish in 2nd place with $4,655

    Kurilenko wins the Playground 200

    Kurilenko wins the Playground 200

    October 8, 2018December 4, 2018 | Playground

After four Day 1s and a Day 2, today was the final day in the October Power Weekend edition of the Playground 200. After starting with 487 entries, by just after midnight on October 8th, just one player remained: Mykyta Kurilenko. Mykyta defeated Gary Lucci after about 50 minutes of heads up play following the elimination of Cristian Muset. The final 3 players had made a deal, but that didn’t stop them from playing hard to earn the additional $1,995 that came with the Championship, but at the end of the affair, only Mykyta was left standing. Or sitting, rather, and posing for the Champion’s photo. When heads up play began, it seemed like it was destined to go in the other direction, that it might be written in the stars that Gary would win. And indeed through much of the heads up period, the table was definitely tilted in […]

Sandrel Dugue wins the 50/50 Bounty tournament

    October 7, 2018December 4, 2018 | Playground

After a short heads up phase where both players took out all the stops in order to win, Sandrel Dugue got the last word. Sandrel went all-in pre-flop and Alexandre immediately called. Sandrel Dugue: Alexandre Cousineau: The dealer wasted no time in running out all five community cards, but the flop was enough for Sandrel. Board: So Alexandre Cousineau is out in 2nd position, and Sandrel Dugue is crowned the winner of Event #9 50/50 Bounty. Sandrel also managed to pick-up 10 bounties, this will add a hefty $1,000 to his winnings. Congratulations to all the winners. Brigitte Korak is the Women’s Event winner!

    October 7, 2018December 4, 2018 | Playground

The heads up action between both women was intense but brief. Although Brigitte started with twice her rival’s stack, Lucie managed to climb back up until she had just about 1 million chips. But Brigitte could not be deterred from her goal and sure enough, a few hands later she got her wish. Lucie tried to make a grab for the pot and went all in holding: She was, however, a bit taken by surprise when Brigitte snap called all-in with The dealer ran the board So this spelled the end for Lucie Lee, who goes home with a 2nd place finish. Congratulations to Brigitte Korak for her 1st place position. The enchanting lady was all smiles, having overcome 49 other ladies to get to this point. Women’s Event Champion: Brigitte Korak, $835 The winning hand 2nd place: Lucie Lee, $650

    October 7, 2018December 4, 2018 | Playground

The Secondary BBJ hit again last night – more precisely in the very early hours of October 7th! This time the winning hand was a straight flush to the , which beat out Quad Sevens to secure everyone at the table a piece of $25,000. The hand occurred on a $1/$2 table just after midnight and 4 players went to the flop in a limped pot. The flop was dealt: and action was checked around. Fawad had already made his straight flush but he didn’t have many chips, so when Steve A bet $20 on the turn , all Fawad could to was go all-in for his remaining $13. Event #7 Champion: Danny Boudreau

    Event #7 Champion: Danny Boudreau

    October 6, 2018December 4, 2018 | Playground

After a long and grueling day of poker on the felts of the Playground Poker Club Tournament Hall, Danny Boudreau has emerged as the winner of Event #7, a $70 + $10 NL Hold’em Freeze that began at 1:00pm today. By the time play got to the heads up phase, both players were quite worn out and Danny in particular seemed very eager to wrap things up quickly. In fact that had been true since at there were 6 players remaining, and in a way it worked to his advantage once the deal had been reached because it allowed him to play fearlessly – and to amass a whole boatload of chips along the way. During heads up play, every hand was either a quick fold or an all-in situation. However, even after a full double-up, by the final hand Fady Habashi was still covered by Danny and all the […]

    Event #6 Champion: Stefano Parisé

    Event #6 Champion: Stefano Parisé

    October 6, 2018December 4, 2018 | Playground

Event #6 of the October Power Weekend, the Megastack Turbo Re-entry, had a robust turnout of 86 entries. The huge starting stack of 50,000 in chips was immensely appealing and helped create some wild action in the early levels. Given the number of chips and the turbo format, the players sprinted out of the gate and put those chips to work. There was no shortage of huge opening bets and raises, enough to even bring about 11 re-entries before the end of the late registration and re-entry period. Trevor Dixon jumped out to the early lead, but he saw the cards turn against him following the first break and ended up busting in the middle of the pack. Anderson Frank-Graham had his turn in the driver’s seat at the second break, but he was soon overtaken by our eventual champion, Stefano Parisé. Parisé had a healthy stack from the early […]

    The Seniors’ Champion: James McDermott

    The Seniors’ Champion: James McDermott

    October 5, 2018December 4, 2018 | Playground

After a tough and relatively long heads up battle, James McDermott has emerged victorious over Sharrol Segal. Segal, from Vancouver, played a great match, but McDermott (from the Ottawa area) was able to take it down in a two-hand process. The first step on his way to victory came after about 20 hands of heads up play – Sharrol had a clear stack size edge at the time. James was in the small blind and flat called, and Sharrol took the opportunity to go all in. James called and the cards were exposed. James: Sharrol: Community cards: Over 500K in chips were shipped over to James, and Sharrol was left quite short-stacked – playing just over 200K. A couple of hands later, Sharrol went all-in from the button and James made the call. Sharrol: James: James hit right in the window – the flop came . And no help was […]
