    6-Max Re-entry Champion: Remi Bourque

    July 22, 2019July 23, 2019 | 8:45pm | Playground

After the elimination of Brigitte Metivier, the two finalists for the $100 + $10 6-Max Re-entry were in a hurry to finish up. They discussed it before the cards were dealt, and decided to shove all in blind no matter what, since they had both had an excellent day, and the winner bonus of $200 – a marginal addition to their already impressive scores for the day.

As it turned out, not one but both players were disappointed with their cards when they flipped them over. Remi had a 9 of Clubs 3 of Spades, and Giovanni a 7 of Hearts 2 of Diamonds. The board was dealt out with neither of them hitting. The nine-high takes it! Congratulations to these Monday afternoon warriors on an excellent day of poker.

    $100 + $10 6-Max Re-entry Champion: Remi Bourque: $1,905 ($1,705 ICM chop + $200 winner bonus)

    Last Hand of Play:

    Second Place: Giovanni Petrella, $1,970

There was no love lost for this quick finish, as the players hugged it out at the end.

    Metivier finishes third

    July 22, 2019 | 8:11pm | Playground

After just a shade under eight hours of play, Brigitte Metivier was eliminated in 3rd place, taking home the aforementioned $1,810. Congratulations on an excellent tournament. The money is a well-deserved prize for her strong, consistent play. The hand that took her out was a preflop raise-shove-call between herself and Remi Bourque. Brigitte was holding Jack of Clubs Queen of Diamonds, her opponent a Ace of Clubs 5 of Spades.

The board came down 7 of Clubs 3 of Diamonds 3 of Clubs Ace of Spades 10 of Diamonds, and Remi’s pair of aces made it a two-man game.

As luck would have it, our short stack gladiator Matthew Di Perna did outlast the 8th place finisher, Mr. Tristan Girard. Tristan took home the $350 for 8th place, and Matt squeezed at least $190 more out of this tournament with his efforts. With only seven players left, we moved to the final table. His luck fully run dry, Matthew was eliminated almost right away.

While this post was being written, there were two more eliminations, leaving us with four players. First to go was Luigi Petrella, whose 6th place finish earned him $610. He was followed by Andre Dries, who finished 5th for $800. The last four at the table briefly discussed an ICM chop, but the table couldn’t agree on it, so play continued.

But less than 5 minutes later, even before we could upload this post, Constantinos Psallidas was eliminated in 4th for $1,060. A new ICM chop was then discussed and agreed upon. Based on their chip stacks, Giovanni Petrella will receive $1,970, Brigitte Metivier $1,810 and Remi Bourque $1,705, with $200 left aside for the 1st place finisher. Congratulations to all on an excellent tournament!

With nine players remaining, there are only two short stacks left in the tournament: Matthew Di Perna at table 32 and Benoit Litalien at table 28. Matt has been continually popping out of his seat at every fold to check on his compatriot at the other table. The difference between 9th and 8th place is a whopping $80 or “almost 4 hours work,” according to one helpful onlooker – certainly nothing to sneeze at.

The tension remained high until one of our gladiators took his inevitable fall. The one left standing? Matthew Di Perna! Congratulations! He remains the short stack, but he is guaranteed at least $350 for his efforts. Well done. Now the question is: can he make it to 7th? We’ll see!

    9th: $270 – Benoit Litalien

We have now reached the final two tables in today’s $100 + $10 6-Max Re-entry, and the eliminations continue! Brigitte Metivier claimed another victim just now on table 32, this time it was Jean-Francois Santerre. When we arrived at the table the flop had already been dealt 4 of Clubs Queen of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds and Jean-Francois had shoved for his remaining chips. Brigitte was happy to call, and both player flipped over their cards.

Brigitte was holding steady with top pair with her Ace of Clubs Queen of Clubs and Jean-Francois was chasing the flush with a Ace of Diamonds 2 of Diamonds.

There were no diamonds to be had, and the remaining cards were dealt Ace of Spades 10 of Clubs. Brigitte added Jean-Francois’ chips to her pile and the field was reduced by one. While this post was being written, two more players were eliminated. The payouts are listed below.

    14th: $170 – James Belanger

    13th: $190 – Jefferson Michel

    12th: $190 – Jean-Francois Santerre

    11th: $200 – Maxime Duhamel

The 15 remaining players were on the bubble for several minutes before they were forced to take their third break of the afternoon. We took that opportunity to quickly count up the stacks, and it turns out that our earlier guess was indeed correct – Brigitte Metivier is the new leader!

Not only does Brigitte Metivier have a healthy stack of chips in front of her, but she also happens to be one of the only two female competitors left in the $100 + $10 6-Max Re-entry. Seated at a table with two former chip leaders from today’s event, she is more than holding her own, if she isn’t the chip leader in her own right. Barring a complete catastrophe, she is also very likely cash out, as we find ourselves on the bubble.

With what looks like an above-average amount of chips, she is in a comfortable position moving forward, so good luck goes out to her and all of the other competitors still in the hunt. One more elimination to go, and then the real contest begins!

Amir F. had a good run, but that run has unfortunately come to an end. Dressed in a sharp blue and white striped blazer, Amir’s ill-timed preflop ace-five shove put him up against Tristan Girard’s pocket sevens. Tristan remained ahead the whole way too, with the river rubbing salt in Amir’s wounds as the board came down Jack of Spades 8 of Spades Queen of Clubs 10 of Clubs 7 of Spades.

Now down to just 21 players, only seven eliminations remain until the group is in the money. Good luck!

Max Duhamel must have scored some nice pots since we last saw him chopping up a hand with Amir F. an hour ago, as he has catapulted himself out in front of the pack. Currently holding 162,000 in chips, only a few others have managed to accumulate more than double the chip average of 62,000. The players that have done so are listed below.

Good luck to all as we move towards the money. For this event, only the top 14 players will be paid. The payout amounts are also listed below.

On table 32 just now two players chuckled together as they flipped over their cards at the end of the latest hand. Both had loved seeing the river, the only problem was that both opponents had the same cards. We joined the hand mid-way through the first round of betting, as Shunn Jacques had just raised to 1,800, with a Amir F. and Max Duhamel calling close behind.

The flop was dealt 7 of Clubs 4 of Diamonds Ace of Hearts and the table checked. The turn was a Jack of Diamonds, and again the table checked again. Finally, the river came down an 8 of Spades, and this time instead of following Shunn’s check, Alex bet 5,000. Amir shoved over the top, Shunn got out quickly, and Max called. He triumphantly flipped over a 5 of Clubs 6 of Spades. That winning feeling disappeared quick, as it Amir’s turn to flip over a straight with his 5 of Hearts 6 of Hearts.

They chopped the pot, no one the worse for wear. Play continues!

On table 26 just now, Jean Yves Demers won a hand he probably shouldn’t have, mathematically speaking, getting a gift from the poker gods that even he wasn’t expecting. Facing off against Alex Joly, the hand began with Jean calling a three-bet raise from Alex along with two other players to see the flop, which came down 10 of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds 6 of Clubs.

The table checked around to Alex, who bet 3,000. That chased the others from the hand, but not Jean, who felt like it was the perfect opportunity to semi-bluff, as he was holding 4 of Diamonds 9 of Diamonds. Alex called, and flipped over his 6 of Hearts 7 of Hearts. His middle pair was good for the moment – as long as no diamonds showed.

On the positive side, no diamonds showed. On the other hand, the turn and river were dealt 4 of Spades 4 of Hearts, giving Jean his runner-runner trips, doubling him up. A good sport, Alex had not choice but to laugh, which he did. That’s how poker shakes out sometimes!

The players are now on break, and anyone who wants in on the action can buy for the next 15 minutes.
