Day 1B in the WPT500 has already played two levels and seen three busts. Two of those chose to re-enter, taking advantage of the unlimited re-entry format. So far, a total of 60 entries took place. Players will keep coming in and re-entering until about 9:30 tonight.

Play continues on Day 1A, with 87 players left in contention.

The excited energy of the early levels has given way to a more serious vibe around the tables, however, the tension in the room is being sporadically broken by eruptions of laughter; despite their focus, the players are clearly still having fun.

The current chip average provides players slightly more than 63 big blinds. The chip leaders have hundreds of blinds at their disposal, and most players left in the field are still enjoying deep-stacked play.

Here is an updated look at the action from level 9:

    Day 1B takes off

    October 25, 2019 | 5:03pm | Playground

The second live flight in the WPT500 is about to begin. Day 1A saw a very respectable 183 entries take part here at Playground, and players are still battling it out in the Tournament Hall for a spot in Day 2. Day 1B gets off at 5:00pm sharp, and another wave of players will start their WPT Montreal adventure.

The WPT500 Montreal boasts a $1,066,000 guarantee, made up of $1,000,000 in cash and 20 Main Event seats. These seats will be awarded to the top 20, on top of their handsome payout. With so much on the line, we can expect some serious poker to be played!

Players start with 30,000 chips and play 30-minute levels until the number of players left in the field has dwindled down to 1 in 7 entries, at which point the money is reached. Remember that anyone can play as many flights as they wish, whether they have survived a previous Day 1 with chips or not. Best stack advances, and players retain the minimum cash prize for all abandoned stacks!

    Good luck!

Big lead for Strutt following the second break

Play has just resumed in level 9, meaning that the late registration and re-entry period is now closed on Day 1A. But there was time for this flight to collect 183 entries, which was helped along by 33 re-entries. The top 26 finishers from this flight will advance to Day 2 and reach the money.

The current chip leader, Trevor Strutt, caught fire between the first and second breaks, running up the only stack in the field above the 200,000-chip mark, good for slightly more than 250 big blinds at this stage. Former chip leader Ara Asatoorian still has a healthy stack but has fallen down the leaderboard.

    October 25, 2019 | 3:41pm | Playground

With the help of 27 re-entries, Day 1A has taken in 177 total entries, and 126 players remain in contention. The early levels were relatively calm, but once the players returned from their first break of the afternoon, the action shifted into another gear. Three-bets are becoming more and more standard, as the gap between the big and small stacks in the field begins to widen. Ara Asatoorian, the chip leader following the first break, still controls one of the largest stacks in play, but a number of players are closing in on him quickly.

As play enters the late stages of level 7, there is less than one hour of late registration and re-entries for this flight. For anyone who misses out or would prefer to start with a clean slate, the next flight, Day 1B, gets underway at 5:00pm.

Here is a look at the action from level 6:

    Asatoorian leads after four levels

    • Level: 5
    • Small Blind: 175
    • Big Blind: 350
    • BB Ante: 350
    • Chip Average: 35K

    • Entries: 155
    October 25, 2019 | 2:28pm | Playground

The players have just returned from their first break of the afternoon, with 132 players remaining out of 155 total entries. Although many players took a cautious line out of the gate, others in the field brought a more aggressive approach, resulting in 16 re-entries through the first four levels of play.

Late registration and unlimited re-entries will be available for two more hours, leaving plenty of time for more re-entries and new players to join Day 1A. The current chip leader of this flight, Ara Asatoorian, has a stack of roughly triple the current chip average, good for just over 300 big blinds.

Seven players advance from the final online flight

    October 25, 2019 | 1:31pm | Playground

The WPT500’s final flight on partypoker, Online Day 1E, gathered 49 total entries.

The field played down until only seven players remained to secure their spots for Day 2. The chip leader from this flight is Christopher King, who will bring forward 362,000 in chips. Although this stack puts King in great position, he is a long way behind the overall chip leader, Martin Raus, the only  player currently above the 700K-chip mark. Now that the online flights have wrapped, all remaining flights for the WPT500 will be held at Playground, with Day 2 running on Monday, October 28 at 1:00pm.

10 players advance from Online Day 1D

    October 25, 2019 | 1:22pm | Playground

Online Day 1D ran on Wednesday evening, attracting 71 total entries. When the dust settled at the end of the flight, 10 players accumulated all the chips in play and advanced to Monday’s Day 2.

The chip leader from this flight is Shawn Buchanan, who will bring forward just over 427,000 in chips, and he is closely followed by Natasha Tatta, who survived the flight with 410,000 in chips.

Over 100 entries through two levels of play

    • Level: 2
    • Small Blind: 100
    • Big Blind: 200

    • Chip Average: 31K
    • Remaining: 112
    • Entries: 118
    October 25, 2019 | 12:58pm | Playground

As expected, Day 1A has brought out a robust field to start the day.

There are still over 110 players in their seats out of 118 total entries, which includes four early re-entries. The late registration and re-entry period will be open until 4:30pm, so expect many re-entries and new players to join the field before then. For now, the action is heating up, as the cautious approach of the early levels gives way to more aggression and bigger pots.

Here is a look at the some of the action from the first two levels:

    Day 1A has arrived!

    October 25, 2019 | 12:00pm | Playground

The WPT500 is an epic, multi-day event that boasts a prize pool guarantee of $1,066,000. There will be at least $1,000,000 in cash awarded, to go along with 20 $3,000 + $300 Main Event seats for the top 20 finishers. Online flights have been running throughout the week, and it’s time for the live action to begin! Today at noon, the first of eight live flights for the WPT500, Day 1A, gets underway. The second starting flight, Day 1B, runs later today at 5:00pm.

Players will start with stacks of 30,000 in chips to play through as many 30-minute levels as needed to reduce the field to one in seven entries, at which point the players will bag their chips for Day 2. Each Day 1 will play 10-handed and move to 9-handed play as soon as possible.

The WPT500 is an unlimited re-entry event, with unlimited re-entries permitted until the beginning of the ninth level of play on each Day 1. Players can enter multiple starting flights but only their largest stack can be used on Day 2; all other qualifying stacks will be forfeited, but players will receive the associated cash prize for any forfeited stacks.

The stage is set. The tournament staff is ready and waiting, as the players are now making their way in to the tournament hall. After much anticipation, the live action of the WPT Montreal is about to begin! Good luck to all!

Online Day 1C puts nine players into Day 2

    October 23, 2019October 23, 2019 | 1:29pm | Playground

Online Day 1C of the WPT500 was held last night on partypoker, bringing out a field of 60 entries and putting nine players into Day 2. The Day 2 qualifiers from this flight are led by Alain Medesan, who will take 522K in chips forward, good enough for the third largest stack up to this point.

Now that three of five online flights are in the books, 33 players have advanced stacks to Day 2, and the live action has yet to begin! The strong online turnout bodes well for the live flights, which start this Friday at 12:00pm when Day 1A, the first of eight live flights for this epic event, kicks off the live action.
