With the blinds at 800/1,600, Ralph Gidaro opened under the gun to 1,600 and was three-bet by Christina Knot in mid position. Soomnath Datta, who has the largest stack on the table, also called from the cut off position. When the action returned to Girado, he moved his stack forward with an all in bet. Knot made the call, and Datta shook his head and mucked his cards.

Girardo: Ace of Clubs Queen of Diamonds
Knot: King of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds

Girardo was clearly in the lead and when the board ran out 5 of Clubs 3 of Spades 8 of Clubs 4 of Diamonds 2 of Diamonds, Knot shrugged her shoulders and picked up her belongings as she headed to the rail. Needless to say, Girardo was happy to pick a stack of chips to add to his pile.

There will be another break in a few minutes and we will be updating the leaderbaord when the players return to their seats.

Ngai leads 44 Day 2 qualifiers from Day 1C

    October 26, 2019 | 11:09pm | Playground

Day 1C of the WPT500 brought out a huge field of players and collected 310 entries. The players contributed 65 re-entries throughout the afternoon, which helped put over 9 million in chips in play.

Many different players held the chip lead at various stages in this flight, as it seemed that nobody was able to maintain their momentum for very long. With each passing break, there was nearly a complete turnover of the leaderboard. But once play entered the late stages, the big stacks in the field were much more cautious with their chips, knowing that qualifying for Day 2 and cashing this event was within reach.

The chip leader from this flight, Wai Kit Ngai, bagged 587,500 in chips, good enough for the fourth largest stack to date in the WPT500. Ngai had taken the chip lead in the late stages and, after losing a few hands that put a dent in his stack, found ways to win some big pots during hand-for-hand play that brought him back to the front of the pack.

There are three more starting flights for the WPT500. Day 1F runs tomorrow at noon, followed by Day 1G at 5:00pm and Day 1E Turbo at 10:00pm.

If you were looking to play the WPT500 and did not want to spend a long day here on Sunday, the Day 1E turbo flight might be the answer. In level 3 the tournament is now up to 31 entries (including 2 re-entries) and late registration will remain open until 12:30am! The tournament plays down to 15% of the field and all players who bag for Day 2 will be in the money!

Here are a few of the players currently seated at the tables:

Day 1E turbo flight is about to start!

    October 26, 2019October 26, 2019 | 9:58pm | Playground

The WPT Montreal continues on at 10:00pm with Day 1E of the $500 + $50 WPT500.

This epic, multi-day event has already gathered 1,144 entries through five online flights and four live flights. So far, 121 players have advance stacks to Day 2, which will be held Monday, October 28 at 1:00pm. To see the combined Day 1 results, click here.

Each starting flight of the WPT500 starts players with stacks of 30,000 in chips to play through as many 30-minute levels as needed to reduce the field to one in seven entries, at which point the players will bag their chips for Day 2. Each Day 1 will play 10-handed and move to 9-handed play as soon as possible.

The WPT500 is an unlimited re-entry event, with unlimited re-entries permitted until the beginning of the ninth level of play on each Day 1, which will arrive at 12:30am on Day 1E. Players can enter multiple starting flights but only their largest stack can be used on Day 2; all other qualifying stacks will be forfeited, but players will receive the associated cash prize for any forfeited stacks.

    Good luck to all!

The late registration and re-entry has come to a close and the total number of entries climbed to 178 players. As each flight plays down to 15% of the field, all of whom will all be in the money heading into day 2, the top 25 finishers tonight will bag & tag their Day 2 stacks.

With the chip average now at 44,500, one player has managed to go over the 200,000 mark; Frederick Moss from Quebec City (Qc) is in the lead with 202,500 chips. Mehdi Badreddine follows in second place with 150,100.

Now that the field is less than ten eliminations away from the money and qualifying for Day 2, the mood at the tables has changed. The field was boisterous throughout most of this flight, but everyone has their game face on now.

Several players have accumulated huge stacks, thanks to the massive amount of chips in play, so Mathyeu Provost’s overall chip lead in this event is likely to be challenged.

Here is an updated look at the field from level 16:

There are now 124 players in contention out of the original 171 entries with still over 30 minutes left in the late registration period. There are some healthy stacks in the room but a few players have started to feel the pressure with well below average stacks.

Action was opened to 1,100 by Jeremy Bertand who had calls from Jocelyn Arseneau and then by Robin Desgreniers in the small blind.  When it was John Paul Tobago’s turn to act in the big blind, he announced that he was all in. Bertrand and Arseneau moved out of the way but after noticing that Tobago only had about 12,000, Desgreniers decided to make the call.

Desgrenier: King of Clubs Jack of Clubs
Tobago: Ace of Spades 7 of Spades

Tobago’s timing was good as the board ran out 10 of Spades 4 of Diamonds 2 of Spades 3 of Spades 10 of Hearts giving him the nut flush and a badly needed double-up.

A break is coming up shortly and it will give us the opportunity to put together the second leaderboard of the evening.

Play has just resumed in level 16, and the field is down to only 56 players.

The blinds caught up to many players in the field in the lead up to the last break and started forcing the action. The result was a number of multi-way all in pots that helped shake up the leaderboard. The former chip leaders in this flight are no longer among the biggest stacks in the field, as the balance of power has shifted to a new group of players.

The current chip leader in Wai Kit Ngai, who was quietly accumulating chips until he scooped a big, three-way all in pot after having played pocket aces in position to perfection. Ngai called the opening raise from early position, which opened the door for another player, who cold three-bet all in from the small blind. This raise elicited a flat call from the original raiser, which is when Ngai moved all in and was called. Ngai’s aces stood in the three-way pot and allowed him to collect a major portion of his stack.

Action was opened to 1,400 by Miraz Ullah in early late position only to be met by a re-raise to 7,400 by Guillaume Comtois in the small blind. When it was Nicholas Romano’s turn to act in the big blind, he moved his entire stack forward with an all in bet. Ullah made the call and Comtois, realizing he might have had some bad timing, let go of his hand.

Ullah: Queen of Spades Queen of Clubs
Romano: Ace of Spades Ace of Diamonds

The board ran out 8 of Spades 7 of Spades 4 of Spades King of Spades 5 of Hearts and Romano’s ace high flush beat Ullah’s queen high flush.

Play has just resumed in level 13, following the latest break in the action.

The blinds are beginning to catch up with the field. The current chip average now provides roughly 44 big blinds, which is quite deep for most tournaments but far from the depth of play seen earlier in this flight.

A new chip leader emerged recently. Prosper Azoulay went on a great run prior to the last break, accumulating nearly four times the current chip average to stand head and shoulders above the rest of the field at this stage. Azoulay has his nearest rival, Neil Macleod, outchipped by about an average stack.

The field will be reduced to double digits before long, which will add to the already mounting tension in the tournament hall. Everyone has their eyes set on cashing this event and advancing to Day 2, but only the top 44 finishers will make it.
