Day 1F sends 67 qualifiers to Day 2

    October 27, 2019 | 10:55pm | Playground

Day 1F of the WPT500 was by far the largest starting flight of this event. It took in a total of 470 entries, a figure which was helped along by 105 re-entries.

This flight was full of wild action from start to finish. Only the first level of the day played out somewhat cautiously. After that, the players found their stride and the chips started flying. Several different notable players held the chip lead at various points, but, in a pattern that was seen in other starting flights, nobody was able to maintain the pole position for very long. Also, the flight’s chip leader only rose to the fore in the late stages of play. Today that was Robert Greenberg. He flew under the radar for most of the flight before capitalizing on some big pots at critical moments as the end of the flight approached. Greenberg bagged 592,500, good enough for the fifth largest stack so far. Greenberg is closely followed by Jordan Saccucci with 577,00 in chips and Jean Luc Joseph, who bagged 535,000.

The combined Day 1 results and Day 2 seating draw will be published tomorrow morning. Play resumes for Day 2 tomorrow at 1:00pm.

The end of the flight is in sight, as only 71 players remain on Day 1F. Hand-for-hand play has just begun, and there is a new chip leader in the field.

Robert Greenberg took down some big pots when it mattered most and now sits atop the leaderboard with a stack of more than double the average.

Day 1F has just entered its eighteenth level of play, and only 78 players remain in contention.

The pressure of the blinds is being felt by most players, as the chip average now provides 30 big blinds. Each passing hand is taking on greater and greater consequence, now that Day 2 qualification and securing a cash in this event is only 12 eliminations away. Nonetheless, the players are not sitting on their chips; no one remaining in this field is being shy about playing either good spots or good cards.

Here is a look at the action from level 17:

    Tran takes the lead

    October 27, 2019 | 8:46pm | Playground

Play has just resumed in level 16, following the latest break in the action, and Day 1F has a new chip leader.

Tu Kham Tran went on a tear between the last two breaks, running up a stack of over 105 big blinds to seize the chip lead. Tran is well known around Playground and is beginning to make a name for himself on the tournament circuit, following his victory in the $2,000 + $200 High Roller during the recent WSOP-C Playground. Click here to read all about his triumph.

The field is now down to 110 players, and the top 67 finishers will reach the money and qualify for tomorrow’s Day 2. The blinds are beginning to catch up with the field, as the current chip average provides about 32 big blinds. Expect the ranges to tighten and the tension to mount from here until the end of the flight.

Thanks to the huge turnout, there are over 14 million in chips in play today, which has allowed many players to run up some deep stacks. The current chip average provides 40 big blinds, but these players are sitting comfortably with many times that figures in their possession.

The wild action of the early levels has given way to a focused tournament grind, now that more than half of the entries have been eliminated on Day 1F. The field is down to 167 players from 470 entries, with a chip average of roughly 42 big blinds.

The current chip leader is Garry Lucci, a Playground event veteran with lots of tournament success on his poker resume. Lucci is comfortably out ahead of the field with a stack of 135 big blinds. The current chip average of 43 big blinds provides significant depth of play for most players in the field. The top 67 players will advance to Day 2 so the tension will only mount from here.

Play has just resumed in level 9, meaning that the late registration and re-entry period is now closed on Day 1F. But before the timer sounded, there was a late rush to the cashier which helped drive the number of re-entries up to 105. The huge turnout will allow 67 players to reach the money and advance to Day 2 from this flight.

There are now 287 players still involved in this flight, competing for a part of the 14.1 million in chips in play. Several players have accumulated six-figure stacks already, and they are led by Landen Lucas, who is playing a stack of slightly more than 200 big blinds. Former chip leader Jishant Sapra went through some big swings in the last few levels and fell off the leaderboard.

The timer is ticking down on level 7, as Day 1F enters the last hour of late registration and re-entries.

This flight has already put over 12 million in chips in play, with the help of 67 re-entries up to this point. There are still 308 players involved, out of 416 total entries. The early levels have been full of wild action, that put some huge three-bets and massive pots on display. Things will likely settle down following the end of the re-entry period, but they will only continue to heat up until then.

Here is a look at the action from level 6:

Play has just resumed in level 5, following the first break of the afternoon.

New players and re-entries keep rolling in, putting over 11 million in chips in play so far. The field has been bolstered by 39 re-entries, which shows that the players are ready and willing to fire multiple bullets to set up a deep run in this event.

The current chip leader, Jishant Sapra, had a great start to the day, running up a stack of nearly 400 big blinds.

Day 1F has just entered the fourth level of play, and the chips are flying. The players wasted no time getting off the starting line this afternoon, playing big pots right from the get go. The all-in cards were put to use early and often, resulting in 25 re-entries, and many more are sure to follow.

There are still nearly 300 players in their seats, out of 331 total entries, competing for the nearly 10 million in chips in play. The late registration and re-entry period will be open until 4:30pm.

Here is a look at the action from level 3:

Day 1F has just entered its second level of play, and it has already collected over 260 entries. With 7.5 million in chips in play at this early stage, Day 1F is shaping up to be the largest starting flight yet. And with good reason because today is the last chance for players to take part in this event.

The massive prize pool guarantee of $1,066,000 will ensure that many players walk away from this event with significant scores, along with a potentially life-changing cash for the eventual champion. Also, the top 20 finishers will receive entries to the $3,000 + $300 WPT Montreal Main Event. There is a lot of value to be had!

Late registration and unlimited re-entries for Day 1F will be available until 4:30pm. The last two starting flights, Day 1G and Day 1H Turbo, run later today at 5:00pm and 10:00pm, respectively.

Today is your last chance to get in on the WPT500!

    October 27, 2019 | 11:57am | Playground

There are three starting flights on tap today, starting with Day 1F at 12:00pm. Day 1G runs at 5:00pm, and the final starting flight, Day 1H Turbo, starts tonight at 10:00pm.

This massive event has already gathered 1,201 entries through five online flights and five live flights. So far, 169 players have advance stacks to Day 2, which will be held Monday, October 28 at 1:00pm. To see the combined Day 1 results, click here.

Each starting flight of the WPT500 starts players with stacks of 30,000 in chips to play through as many 30-minute levels as needed to reduce the field to one in seven entries, at which point the players will bag their chips for Day 2. Each Day 1 will play 10-handed and move to 9-handed play as soon as possible.

The WPT500 is an unlimited re-entry event, with unlimited re-entries permitted until the beginning of the ninth level of play on each Day 1, which will arrive at 4:30pm on Day 1F. Players can enter multiple starting flights but only their largest stack can be used on Day 2; all other qualifying stacks will be forfeited, but players will receive the associated cash prize for any forfeited stacks.

    Good luck to all!
