The action has kept up its break-neck pace on Day 1D. Unlike some of the other starting flights, the players have kept the pedal to the metal throughout the middle stages of the flight and show no signs of slowing down. With the chip average providing roughly 20 big blinds, many in the field have few options other than to take their chances with strong pre-flop moves and hope for the best.

The action has been wide open all afternoon on Day 1D, reducing the field to only 80 players after 11 levels of play.
Many of the remaining players are well ahead of the average stack, while the chip leader, Pengyu Yu, is sitting comfortably with a stack of more than triple the current chip average. The top 23 players from this flight will qualify for Day 2 so pace of play will likely slow down significantly as field approaches that number.

The late registration and re-entry period has just closed on Day 1D. The early levels were full of wild action, resulting in some players building imposing stacks and generating 51 re-entries in the process. In all, this flight took in 223 entries, which bodes well for the prize pool in this event, which will be far larger than the $50,000 guarantee.
Many players were able to run up some big stacks before the first break, but they all trail Rachid Bahaj, who more than quadrupled his starting stack.

With slightly more than an hour of play in the books on Day 1D, the field keeps growing. There was a healthy crowd ready and waiting for the opening announcement to start this flight, and the players continue to file in at a steady clip.
The late registration and re-entry period will be open until 2:15pm for this flight so this just might turn out to be the busiest starting flight to date. The final starting flight, Day 1E, runs tonight at 7:00pm, providing anyone who missed out on the previous starting flights a chance to get in on the action and the chance to build a bigger stack for Day 2 for all those who already advanced stacks.

The final starting flights of Event #3 of the June Power Weekend, the $100 + $100 Playground 100, will be held today. The first, Day 1D, kicks of at 11:00am, followed by Day 1E this evening at 7:00pm. This exciting event guaranteed a prize pool of $50,000, but that figure has already been surpassed, thanks to the huge turnout for the first three live starting flights.
Players will start their journey with 20,000 in chips, and each Day 1 will play until 10% of the starting field remains, at which point the remaining players will bag their chips for Sunday’s Day 2. Players can enter as many Day 1s as they like, as only the largest qualifying stack will advance to Day 2. A total of 54 players have already advanced stacks. This event permits unlimited re-entries during the late registration period, which will be open until the beginning of the seventh level of play.

Action had calmed down in the last few levels of the Playground 100, and then all of the sudden, everything went wild. When play was down to 25 players, and with the top 20 moving on to day 2 and a guaranteed cash, most of those remaining had decent stacks and were playing very tight. Rene Noel had the smallest stack and was the first to exit the room. Mitcheal Ferguson had lost a few key hands late in the game and although he had a decent stack at the final break of the evening, before we had a chance to see the action, he also was sent on his way to the rail.
Malik Lefty, a regular at Playground, was sitting on a healthy stack and when he looked down at his hand, he saw what looked like a nice opportunity to put pressure onto the other players and see if he could eliminate Nicolas Miron who had the smallest stack on the table. Miron, another Playground regular, had a tough night and was nursing one of the smaller stacks the entire time. Well, as they say, timing is everything. Miron had shoved his 9 big blind stack and Lefty went heads up against him holding ace-queen suited. Unfortunately for Lefty, Miron had the goods; he was holding pocket aces and managed to score a badly needed double up.
Play was all of the sudden on the bubble and as fate would have it, Lefty and Miron ended up heads-up again. With Lefty in the big blind with blinds at 6,000/12,000, Miron raised it up to 26,000 and everyone got out of the way except for Lefty who made the call while defending his big blind. The flop came king-ten-eight and Lefty checked. Miron checked back. The turn was an ace, and this time Lefty lead out for 30,000. Miron made the call. The river was a four and Lefty decided to shove his stack. Lefty was holding king-eight and had flopped two pair. Miron however was holding ace-ten and had turned a higher two pair and snap called Lefty’s shove. Miron, who only a few moments earlier was sitting on less than ten bigs, now had a great stack. Lefty, who had a great stack, was now the bubble boy.
The top stack of the flight belongs to Shelley Rapp. Rapp, another regular here at Playground, played a steady game all night long. As each level progressed, her stack kept growing, and although she was not a top five stack until the final break, she played solid all night long and kept chipping up slowly and steadily. She also had some good luck to go along with her skill, flopping the top straight against the low straight, as well as some other key hands. When it was all said and done, she bagged the top stack of the evening (412,000). Miron was the second biggest stack (374,000), followed by Simon Tabah (320,500) and Francis Carriere (296,000).

There are two more Day 1 starting flights tomorrow, Day 1D Saturday July 20 at 11:00am, and Day 1E Saturday at 7:00pm.
Players should note that if they have already bagged a stack for day 2, they can still enter another flight, and should they bag again, they will play the largest stack while still receiving a min-cash on any smaller bags that they must forfeit.

As players were just on break giving us a chance to do another chip count. Where as there is usually one clear cut leader and a few others who are trailing but lower in chip stack sizing, tonight’s flight has the tightest race possible for the lead. On table 36, four players have almost the identical stack, and one other player has a stack that is also almost identical.
Right after the break however the was another all in on table 36, and it was a bizarre hand indeed. Both Francis Carriere and Michael Tremblay got all of their chips into the middle with Tremblay holding

Play has slowed down across the five remaining tables as there now are 38 players left on the 9-handed tables. With the top 20 players moving on to day 2 to end up in the money, everyone who is still here wants to return and cash in this event.

The players just returned from their second break of the evening and the lead has changed; the new chip leader is Francis Carriere with 148,500. He is followed really closely by Simon Tabah who has 143,200. Richard Tossings, who led at the last break, ran into some bad luck and lost his stack. Just as you can go from hero to zero really fast, the short stacks also know that with a couple of well timed double ups, you can also catapult into the lead really fast as well. This therefore is still anybody’s game.

The late registration period has now closed and the total number of entries tonight hit 191 (including 26 re-entries). With another two more starting flights tomorrow, who knows what the grand total will be? The one thing that we do know for sure is that every additional entry will just keep adding to the prize pool which has already surpassed the $50,000 guarantee.
With the average chip stack at the first break sitting just below 27,000, the chip leader is Richard Tossings, with an impressive 116,600 chips. Quite a few other players have manged to double the average (or more) so the fight to bag the top stack will continue as each level plays out.

The Playground 100 gained momentum this afternoon with another popular starting flight, Day 1B. A total of 136 entries took part in the action, and 14 players advanced to Sunday’s Day 2.
As we have come to expect, the action started slowly and picked up pace as the end of the late registration and re-entry period approached. Play tightened up following the first break of the day, but things only loosened up from there. The names on the leaderboard were in constant flux until the late stages of the flight, when David Bonneau emerged as the clear chip leader. Bonneau quietly built his stack throughout the afternoon before he jumped out in front of the pack during level 15 and did not look back from there.
Despite his success on Day 1B, Bonneau still trails the overall chip leader, Jason Teurquety, by a significant margin. To see the combined Day 1 results, click here.
