On table 26 just now, Jean Yves Demers won a hand he probably shouldn’t have, mathematically speaking, getting a gift from the poker gods that even he wasn’t expecting. Facing off against Alex Joly, the hand began with Jean calling a three-bet raise from Alex along with two other players to see the flop, which came down 10 of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds 6 of Clubs.

The table checked around to Alex, who bet 3,000. That chased the others from the hand, but not Jean, who felt like it was the perfect opportunity to semi-bluff, as he was holding 4 of Diamonds 9 of Diamonds. Alex called, and flipped over his 6 of Hearts 7 of Hearts. His middle pair was good for the moment – as long as no diamonds showed.

On the positive side, no diamonds showed. On the other hand, the turn and river were dealt 4 of Spades 4 of Hearts, giving Jean his runner-runner trips, doubling him up. A good sport, Alex had not choice but to laugh, which he did. That’s how poker shakes out sometimes!

The players are now on break, and anyone who wants in on the action can buy for the next 15 minutes.
