The 44th World Series of Poker has been running since the end of May in Las Vegas and so far Canadian players and Montreal-based players ‘-and members of our Players Club ‘-have continued to do very well in the annual tournament series. After a great start to the series, the biggest news of the summer (so far) for Quebec poker was Jason Duval’s bracelet in Event #28, a $1500 No Limit Hold’em tournament. Jason is well known at Playground after his fantastic performances in events here, including final tables of two of the three biggest events in the Playground Poker Spring Classic in May. Amazingly enough, Duval followed up his bracelet win with another strong finish in Event #34, the WSOP’s first-ever Turbo tournament. Long Live the Bad Beat Jackpot!
The Bad Beat Jackpot has been a popular promotion since the beginning here at Playground Poker Club. Over the years the BBJ has changed a few times, and the next version of the Bad Beat Jackpot – which is actually THREE Jackpots – starts immediately. The new Bad Beat Jackpot has three elements. First is the Primary BBJ: the jackpot starts at whopping $100K and the minimum qualifying hand starts at Quad Aces (in other words, a player has to lose a hand with AAAA including the pocket AA to a straight flush or better) in week one. But then it gets fun… the minimum qualifying hand goes down every second week thereafter. The Secondary BBJ requires a player to lose a minimum $20 pot with AAAKK (including a pocket pair). Playground Players at the World Series

The Series started with a solid performance by frequent Playground player Garen who came 28th in Event #2. Another frequent player here, Ami Alibay, followed this up with a fantastic 8th place finish in Event #4. The Millionaire Maker (Event #6) didn’t see any new Playground millionaires, but two regular tournament players here managed to cash in the humongous tournament ‘-Eric Afriat and Carlo Nini. Jonathan Roy Finishes 3rd at the WPT World Championship!
Playground Poker’s Players Club member Jonathan Roy has snagged third place in the World Poker Tour World Championship. The winner of the first ever WPT Montreal last November, Jonathan navigated a very tough field of 146 players over the course of 5 days to make it to the 6-handed Final Table. Action on the Final Table got underway at 4pm PDT with Jonathan in third place by chip count (1.9M) and playing in Seat 1, to the left of massive chip leader David “Chino” Rheem (5.495M). Also on the final table were David Peters (1.085M), Erick Lindgren (3.355M), Brandon Steven (1.21M), and Matt Hyman (1.56M). Some of the star power had left the tournament when Daniel Negreanu finished on the Final Table bubble, but the remaining 6 players were all experienced players with resumes to match. Playground Poker’s WPT Champions among the leaders at the WPT World Championship
When a poker player wins a WPT Championship, the prize package includes an entry in the WPT World Championship at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. The World Championship is underway this week, and going into Day 4 of the 7 day event, the two champions of WPT events held at Playground Poker are both among the leaders with just 24 players left in the field. Amir Babakhani, the winner of the WPT Canadian Spring Championship earlier this month, is the current chip leader with 1,220000 chips (122 big blinds). Playground Poker Players Club member Jonathan Roy, the winner of the inaugural WPT Montreal in November 2012, is sixth with 824000 chips (82 bb). 2013 Playground Poker Spring Classic Kicks Off

Chanracy Khun wins WPT Barcelona
Playground Players Club member Chanracy Khun has defeated a field of 249 players to win the bwin WPT Barcelona and the top prize of €200,000! The event, held from the 5th to the 10th of April at the Casino Barcelona, featured some of Europe and North America’s poker greats including several past WPT champions. Also in the field were fellow Players Club member Benjamin Leblond and Playground regular Terry Flood. Chanracy made his big move on Day 3, which started with just 42 players out of the overall field of 249. He started the day with 98,500 (33 BB) – below the chip average – but by the end of the day he had chipped up to 838,000 (140 BB), good for the second best stack going into Day 4. Update: WPT Canadian Spring Championship Satellites
Here’s an update about the WPT Canadian Spring Championship satellite program that has been under way since March 1. So far, 66 seats to the WPT event have been awarded via satellites and a raffle that was drawn on March 31. This includes an amazing 43 seats that were awarded in the PartyPoker Mega Overlay, which saw over 900 buy-ins (it was a re-entry tournament with 3 Day 1s). There are another 15 WPT entries guaranteed in satellites BEFORE the Playground Poker Spring Classic begins, and another 20 entries guaranteed during satellites during the festival. Hockey Stars Coaching Kids Clinics
The first two poker events in Playground Poker Club’s Hat Trick Series are in the history books with Event 3 taking place on Sunday, March 17. The Series has been great on the poker side of things and now the fun starts for the kids, with on-ice sessions from their hockey idols. On Thursday, February 28 Travis Moen visited the Kahnawake Sporting Complex to give the first two coaching clinics that are the real focus of the Hat Trick Series. The fortunate players benefiting from this (the first 2 of 9) were young members of teams in the Kahnawake Minor Hockey Association. Kids were thrilled about running drills, playing bulldog and even scrimmaging with one of their real-life heroes. Hockey Stars Hit the Playground Again
Playground Poker Club’s Hat Trick Series continues with Event 2 set to go on Sunday, February 10. Slated to join the poker action at Playground are some the most exciting stars of today’s team: Max Pacioretty, Josh Gorges, Travis Moen, David Desharnais, and Brendan Gallagher. Joining them will be two all-time hockey legends: Guy Carbonneau and Yvon Lambert, who will be running a live auction of some rare memorabilia from the hockey world. Max Pacioretty, Josh Gorges and Travis Moen have all joined, becoming the latest members of an exclusive list featuring some of the biggest names in poker, sports and beyond.
