    Deepstack Re-entry Champion: Alexandre Dumas

    November 24, 2019 | 8:17pm | Playground

Event #4 of the November Power Weekend, the $100 + $10 Deepstack Re-entry, brought out a boisterous field that made a total of 105 entries in this single-day event. This turnout was enough to easily surpass the prize pool guarantee of $8,000, as over $10,000 in prizes was awarded this afternoon.

The early portion of this tournament was dominated by Diego Aguilar, who got off to a very fast start and kept the pedal to the metal for as long as he could. Aguilar ran up a huge lead over the field, which allowed him to reach the money, but he ran out of steam in the late stages of play and was eliminated in thirteenth place.

Alexandre Dumas flew under the radar for most of the flight. When it came down to the last two tables, it was Dumas’ time to shine. He built up his stack slowly but surely before a pivotal moment arrived at the final table. He took a huge pot from the chip leader at the time, Cedric Dupuis, thanks to a backdoor flush to take a big chip lead when six players remained. It would prove to be a lead that he would never relinquish. Dupuis was later eliminated in third place, setting the stage for a heads-up battle between Dumas and Jeremie Trudel. It was a short-lived battle, lasting only two hands. When all the chips went in, Trudel took the lead on the flop, but Dumas hit a two-outer on the river thanks to a “seven from heaven” that gave him the victory. Congratulations!

Deepstack Re-entry Champion: Alexandre Dumas, $2,435

Second place: Jeremie Trudel (left), $1,850

The Deepstack Re-entry is now a three-way duel.

Alexandre St-Denis hit the rail in sixth place, earning him $610 in the process. Prosper Azoulay followed shortly thereafter in fifth place, good enough for a payout of $800. Dmytro Bilan laddered up to fourth place but was just eliminated at the hands of Cedric Dupuis, but Bilan can take solace in his $1,060 payout.

Alexandre Dumas still holds the chip lead, but everything can change in a hurry at this stage.

Here is a look at the last three competitors:

Play has just resumed at the final table, following the latest break in the action, and this event has a new chip leader.

Alexandre Dumas had a healthy stack when play began at the final table, and he was lucky enough to double through former chip leader Cedric Dupuis on the last hand before the break to take a commanding lead at this late stage. Dumas’ seven-figure stack gives him a more than 2:1 lead over Prosper Azoulay, who also doubled up his stack shortly before the break. It has been an action-packed final table!

Play has kept up at a brisk pace, following a brief slowdown at the money bubble. Several payers hit the rail in short succession, setting up some deepstacked play at the final table.

The Deepstack Re-entry lost the following players in the lead up to the final table:

    • Philip Jalbert – 14th place, $170
    • Diego Aguilar, 13th place, $190
    • Daniel Lafreniere, 12th place, $190
    • Miguel Goncalo, 11th place, $200
    • Dianne Michaud, 10th place, $200
    • Jean Daniel Touzin, 9th place, $270

Play now continues with eight players remaining. Cedric Dupuis controls the largest stack in play. Stay tuned for a complete leaderboard following the upcoming break at the end of this level.

The money bubble has just burst on the Deepstack Re-entry, thanks to a preflop all in where King of Hearts 10 of Hearts outflopped pocket jacks. The remaining players are now assured of a payout of at least $170, but all eyes are set on the big money at the top of the prize list.

Play has just resumed following the third break of the day, and there is a new chip leader in the Deepstack Re-entry. The chip leader at the first two breaks, Diego Aguilar, hit a rough patch in the lead up to the last break and fell off the leaderboard. There are now several players within a few big blinds of each other at the front of the pack, but they all trail Cedric Dupuis. Dupuis currently has a stack of nearly 40 big blinds.

The blinds have quickly caught up to the field and started forcing the action in recent levels. There are now 21 players left in contention, only eight places away from the money bubble. An average stack equates to nearly 24 big blinds at this stage, meaning that the margin for error is now razor thin.

The chip leader at the first two breaks, Diego Aguilar, has lost some chips recently, but he is still sitting comfortably with an above-average stack.

Here is a look at the action from level 13:

Play has just resumed level 11, following the second break of the day. The chip leader at the first break, Diego Aguilar, somehow found another gear and built up an even larger lead over the field than he had two hours earlier. With a stack approaching the 300K mark, Aguilar is in cruise control with nearly 150 big blinds at his disposal, almost double that of his nearest rival.

The action has maintained its frenetic pace, despite the end of the late registration and re-entry period roughly one hour ago. The players in the field have kept up their aggressive approach, using their big stacks to pressure their opponents at every opportunity. The chip leader at the last break, Diego Aguilar, has kept up his winning ways and taken his stack to new heights.

The blinds are beginning to catch up to the field, as the chip average now provides roughly 34 big blinds, which is a far cry from the hundreds of blinds that players had at the outset of this event. And there remains a long way to go, as the top 14 players will reach the money. The complete prize pool breakdown can be found here.

Play has just resumed following the first break of the day in the Deepstack Re-entry. The late registration and re-entry period is now closed, but there was time for this event to collect 105 entries before the timer sounded to indicate the start of level 7. The large turnout has brought the prize pool over the $8,000 guarantee and will allow the top 14 players to reach the money.

The current chip leader is Diego Aguilar, who sprinted out of the gate to run up a stack of more than double the current chip average, giving him over 130 big blinds to work with.

Now that nearly four levels of play are complete, the re-entries are beginning to roll in. Five players have opted to fire a second bullet at the Deepstack Re-entry, leaving 78 players in contention out of 85 total entries. A starting stack still provides 100 big blinds at this stage, so anyone who jumps into the action at this point will still have lots of room to maneuver. All those chips will likely be needed, as the action of still picking up pace with big pots up for grabs on almost every hand. The late registration period will end at 1:15pm, leaving plenty of time to (re-)enter the Deepstack Re-entry.

Here is a look at the action from the early levels:

    Off to a fast start

    • Level: 2

Event #4 of the November Power Weeekend, the $100 + $10 Deepstack Re-entry, already has 63 players in the running with one level of play in the books. This single-day event starts players 30,000 in chips and will play as many 20-minute levels as needed to determine a winner. The prize pool guarantee stands at $8,000, a figure which will likely be surpassed by the time the late registration period ends when level 7 begins at 1:15pm.

The Deepstack Re-entry is a re-entry event with unlimited re-entries permitted until the end of the late registration period. The players each have hundreds of blinds at their disposal, giving everyone in the field enough chips to take creative lines on their quest to gather all the chips in play. There are more players registering by the minute, and the action is heating up. Good luck to all!
