Mix Max Re-entry Champion: Tristan Lee

    November 21, 2019November 21, 2019 | 7:16pm | Playground

Event #1 of the November Power Weekend, the $100 + $10 Mix Max Re-entry, has come to a close following an exciting, see-saw battle between Tristan Lee and Hrair Yapoudjian.

These two players were neck-and-neck for the chip lead after 10 levels of play, so it was fitting that these two would duke it out for the win. Yapoudjian held the chip lead at the final table for quite some time, thanks in large part to a dramatic three-way all in where he woke up in position with pocket aces with two all ins in front of him. The aces held, giving Yapoudjian the lion’s share of the chips. But Lee showed his grit and determination by grinding back his chips until the two players were nearly even.

Once the stacks were level, Lee and Yapoudjian took turns taking down big pots. This heads-up battle saw some dramatic swings, as each player managed to double through the other when they were on the ropes. Lee managed to build a slight chip lead, just in time to flop the nuts on, what would become, the last hand of play. Lee made a bet, which was met with an all in raise from Yapoudjian, who picked the wrong moment to try to take his opponent off a hand. Lee made the triumphant call, and the board ran out clean, to give him the bragging rights and prize money that comes with taking down a Power Weekend event. Congratulations!

Mix Max Re-entry Champion: Tristan Lee, $1,670

    Second Place: Hrair Yapoudjian, $1,130

    Last Hand of Play:

Lauzon out in fifth, Sigouin busts in fourth

    November 21, 2019 | 6:01pm | Playground

Only three players remain in the Mix Max Re-entry.

After a few hands of play at the final table, Jean Maurice Lauzon was the first player eliminated. Lauzon kept pace with the chip average throughout the afternoon but ran out of steam at the final table. He will collect $360 for his deep run.

Following Lauzon’s elimination in fifth place, former chip leader Sebastien Sigouin was the next to make his exit. Sigouin seized the chip lead early in the afternoon and was able to ride his big stack all the way to the final table. Sigouin will pocket $530 for his strong showing.

Following the bubble deal, it did not take long to play down to the final table.

Patrick St-Onge was eliminated in seventh place, good for a $160 payout. Shortly after, Paul Nakhle hit the rail in sixth place, collecting $240 for his deep run.

Play is set to resume at the final table, as Hrair Yapoudjian leads the way with a stack of just over 33 big blinds.

In many tournaments, the money bubble can bring the action to a standstill. But in this event, the players took it upon themselves to dispense with the bubble to continue the grind to the end.

After nearly an entire level of hand-for-hand play, the players’ patience wore thin and a bubble deal was proposed. The remaining players were quick to come to an agreement whereby seventh place would receive $160. Now that everyone has locked up a payout, the final table is just around the corner.

The number levels played now exceeds the number of players in the field. The timer has just sounded to indicate the start of level 13, and only 10 players are still in contention.

The blinds have caught up to the players, as the chip average now provides only about 23 big blinds, which makes adjusting to the short-handed format crucial to success at this stage.

The stacks have leveled out since the last break. Chanwoo Lee and Hrair Yapoudjian are both still in contention but have fallen back into the peloton. It is still anyone’s tournament, at this stage.

Now that the Mix Max Re-entry has reached the midpoint of level 11, only 14 players remain in contention. The tables are now playing 6-handed but will soon move to 4-handed play when the field is down to 12 players.

There has been a lot of movement since the last break. Former chip leader Jean Charboneau has been overtaken by two players but is still sitting comfortably with an above-average stack. Chanwoo Lee and Hrair Yapoudjian are neck-and-neck for the lead, each controlling stacks of roughly 55 big blinds.

The clock is ticking down on level 10, meaning that the next break is only a few minutes away. The field now fits on three 6-handed tables, which has forced the players to open up their ranges and stay active.

Play has just resumed following the first break of the day, which brings about the end of the late registration and re-entry period.

There was a late rush to the cashier at the timer ticked down on the break that brought the total number of entries to 47 for this event. This figured was helped along by 11 re-entries, leaving only 33 players left in contention at the beginning of the seventh level of play. The large number of re-entries helped boost the number of chips in play to nearly one million, so there plenty of chips to go around for the time being.

Several players managed to more than double their starting stacks during the early levels, but only one player controls a stack of more than double the current chip average. Sebastien Sigouin leads the way with a stack of slightly more than 76 big blinds.

The Mix Max Re-entry has kicked off the November Power Weekend in fine fashion. Although things got off to a slow start this afternoon, new players and re-entries keep filing in for this exciting single-day event.

Now that play has entered level 5, the late registration and re-entry period is quickly coming to a close. But there’s still time to capitalize on the great value provided by this event, as players have until 2:15pm to (re-)enter. So far, there have only been 34 entries, a figure helped along by the 5 re-entries collected up to this point. This means that there is some great value to be had, as the prize pool guarantee stands at $5,000 for this event. Don’t miss out!

Get set for the Mix Max Re-entry!

    November 21, 2019November 21, 2019 | 11:52am | Playground

The November edition of the Playground Power Weekend kicks off at noon with an exciting single-day event that will put the players through their paces. The $100 + $10 Mix Max Re-entry guarantees a prize pool of $5,000 and will start players with 20,000 in chips to play through as many 20-minute levels as needed to determine a winner.

The Mix Max Re-entry provides an interesting twist on the familiar unlimited re-entry format. In this tournament, the format will vary according to the size of the field; as the field shrinks, so will the number of players per table. When the field is at 97 players or more, play will be 10-handed. When the field drops to 96 runners, the tables will be adjusted to 8-handed play. Once the field is down to 61 players, play will be 6-handed. In the late stages when there are 24 players or less, play will be 4-handed until the final table is formed when five players remain. To take this one down, the players will have to adjust their ranges throughout the afternoon and play lots of pots in the process.

Late registration and unlimited re-entries will be available until the beginning of level 7 at 2:15pm. Good luck to all!
