    Re-entry Champion: Christopher Goudreault

    February 27, 2020March 2, 2020 | 9:09pm | Playground

The February Power Weekend kicked off today with the $100 + $10 Re-entry, which featured a $5,000 guaranteed prize pool. By the time the late registration period came to a close, there were a total of 56 entries (including 15 re-entries) and a prize pool of $5,432!

Charli Azoulay took an early lead this afternoon, but, by the time the second break of the day came around, it was Matteo Carelli who was in the driver’s seat.

Carelli maintained his lead all the way to the final table, however, he took a big hit when his pocket jacks went down to Christopher Goudreault’s set of fours. From that point forward, Goudreault started to win pot after pot, building a monster stack along the way. One by one the players busted out, leaving in Goudreault in full control.

Carelli ended up falling in third place, losing his chips to Goudreault. When play finally went heads-up between Goudreault and Danny Landry, Goudreault had most of the chips in play, but Landry never gave up. Heads-up play lasted for the better part of a full level, until the final hand came about.

On the final hand, Landry looked down at a suited ace and put his chips into the middle. Goudreault made the call and the hands were tabled:

Landry: Ace of Spades 7 of Spades

Goudreault: King of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds

As fate would have it, the flop came 6 of Diamonds King of Hearts 8 of Clubs, making a pair of kings for Goudreault. The Queen of Spades turn and 3 of Clubs river didn’t help Landry, and Goudreault’s pair of kings stood tall. Congratulations to the Re-entry champion, Christopher Goudreault!

    Re-entry Champion: Christopher Goudreault, $1,772

    Second Place: Danny Landry, $1,240

    Last Hand of Play:

After the elimination of Matteo Carelli in third place, the tournament is now heads-up between Christopher Goudreault and Danny Landry.

Goudreault has a massive chip lead, but Landry is fighting back and trying to build up his stack!

Carelli exits in 3rd place ($870)

Carelli took the lead early on in the day and never relinquished it until he doubled-up Christopher Goudreault when his pocket jacks lost to Goudreault’s flopped set of fours. He did his best to remain in the game and later on when he flopped a gutshot straight flush draw against Goudreault, his chips went in. As fate would have it, Goudreault easily made the call after having flopped top pair. Goudreault’s pair of queens held and Carelli’s deep run came to an end in third place.

    Third Place: Matteo Carelli, $870

Eric Levesque played a solid game and was on the leaderboard all day long. When he arrived on the final table, he sat back and watched the action as he just wasn’t picking up hands. Finally, a pair of pocket-nines seemed like the right spot to make his move, and his chips went in. Danny Landry was feeling confident and he made the call with king-queen.

The flop came King of Diamonds 2 of Spades 2 of Hearts and all of the sudden Levesque was in desperate need of hitting a nine. The King of Hearts turn and Jack of Clubs river didn’t cut it for him and Landry sends Levesque to the tournament desk to pick-up his payout slip.

    Fourth Place: Eric Levesque, $610

    Nassim K. out in 5th place ($430)

Nassim K. is a fun player to have on your table as he enjoys the camaraderie aspect of the game. He is also a survivor, that’s for sure. His stack has been on a roller coaster ride for the last four or five levels but he does not give up easily.

After his stack dropped to just under two big blinds, when he saw pocket-tens he immediately moved all in. Goudreault has the chips and he easily made the call with Queen of Diamonds 8 of Hearts. Nassim hoped for the best and when Gourdreault flopped a queen, Nassim at least picked up a straight draw to add four more outs to his chances. The turn and river were blanks for him though and his tournament day has now come to an end.

    Fifth Place: Nassim K., $430

When your stack is blinding down poker players are known to prey for a premium hand. When Benoit Landry looked at his cards and saw Ace of Hearts Queen of Hearts, he was delighted and he moved all in. Unfortunately for him, Christopher Goudreault woke up with King of Hearts King of Diamonds and made the call. The board runout was of no help to Landry who exits in sixth place for $300.

With the blinds at 5,000/10,000, Matteo Carelli opened with a raise to 38,000, only to be met by an all in from Christopher Goudreault for 191,000 and Carelli snap-called.

Goudreault: 4 of Hearts 4 of Spades
Carelli: Jack of Spades Jack of Diamonds

Carelli was way out in front and Goudreault would need some serious assistance from the dealer. And assistance is what he received on the 7 of Diamonds 4 of Clubs 9 of Clubs flop, making a set of fours. The 8 of Clubs turn and Ace of Hearts river were of no help to Carelli, and the lead has now moved to Goudreault.

Matteo Carelli continues to dominate and with some run-good he has just added to his stack by eliminating two players. All of the chips went into the middle with Sanghyun Lim holding ace-queen, Charli Azoulay with pocket tens, and Carelli with ace-nine. The flop gave Carelli trip-nines, bringing an end to the day for both Azoulay and Lim.

With only eight players left in the running, an agreement was reached for each player to contribute $10 to pay the “bubble-boy” $100 for their efforts today. This means that all of the remaining players are now in the money!
