The final starting flight of the Grand Prix Canada started at 10:00pm and in the end, it attracted a total of 124 entries (including 32 re-entries). Frederick Watson took an early lead and by the time that the first break came around, he had already put together a massive stack of 955,000 chips. The players at his table said that he played a lot of hands and he won every hand that he played.

Watson held the lead all night long and when it was all said and done, he bagged 2,320,000 chips, to place him into one of the top spots heading into Day 2. In second was Marc Lavergne bagging 1,452,000 chips, followed by Marc-Andre Peroval who hit an ace on the turn with his ace-queen up against pocket jacks just before the bubble to put him in third place with 1,091,000 chips.
