Day 1I: Turcotte bags 1,914,000 chips to lead 58 qualifiers into day 2

    January 26, 2020 | 4:44am | Playground

Day 1I was the second largest of all of the starting flights, attracting a total of 404 entries (including 121 re-entries) to put another 40,400,000 chips into play. Dut Tan Pham took an early lead and stayed on top of the leaderboard throughout the evening.

With so many chips in play, many players were able to put together large stacks of chips. As the evening progressed, the flight saw many millionaires whose stacks were reaching for the sky.

As he bubble approached, tension was in the air and at one point, it looked Dan Vigderhous would bust out on the bubble when his chips went into the middle with Jack of Clubs 10 of Spades on a 6 of Clubs 10 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds 7 of Spades board. As the dealer waited for the floor manager to give the green light to table the hands, Vigderhous asked his opponent if he was holding a nine, to which he replied “yes”. When the hands were finally opened, Vigderhouse was holding Jack of Clubs :ts and his opponent had 8 of Clubs 9 of Clubs for a straight. The dealer than peeled a nine on the river and Vigderhous danced around as he made his (higher) gutshot straight.

The bubble hand came to be when Nick Soller, blinding down, got it in with pocket tens only to walk into pocket kings. The board runout was of no help to him and that ended the flight for the remaining 58 players.

The top stack from the flight belonged to Robert Turcotte who bagged 1,914,000 chips. He was followed in second by Paul Manoian with 1,700,000, and in third by Dy Tan Pahm bagging 1,650,000 chips.
