Event #6 of the World Cup of Cards, the $100 + $10 Deepstack Turbo Re-entry, attracted a field of 90 entries that built a prize pool that far exceeded the $5,000 guarantee. In all, there was $8,730 in prize money for the top 12 players.

This event kept up a torrid pace throughout most of the afternoon, sending players to the rail one after the other. But once the field reached the final table, the dynamics changed entirely. Longtime chip leader Steven Duguay ran out of steam, and the quickly mounting blinds led to chip lead changing hands several times. In the end, it was Daniel Andelman who capitalized at the final table. Andelman had flown under the radar for most of the afternoon but made the most of his opportunities at the final table.

In the end, everything was up for grabs in the three-way battle between Andelman, Dave Jeanneau-Cyr and Maxime Hartout. Hartout had a big chip lead, but Andelman took them all, sending Hartout to the rail in third place. Hartout collected $1,240 for his third place finish. The heads-up match between Jeanneau-Cyr and Andelman lasted only one hand, as Jeanneau-Cyr shoved his short stack preflop. Andelman had an overwhelming chip lead at this point and woke up with an ace, making it an easy call for him. Andelman flopped a pair of aces that held up, giving him the win. Congratulations!

Deepstack Turbo Re-entry Champion: Daniel Andelman, $2,120

    Second Place: Dave Jeanneau-Cyr, $1,620

Maxime Hartout continues to pick up strong hands and made the most of them at the final table. On the last hand, Hartout sent both Frederic Gagne and Steven Duguay to the rail with pocket kings.

Hartout opened the action to 90K from the cutoff and was called by Andelman, who was on the button, before both blinds moved all in. Hartout and Andelman made the call and checked both the flop and turn before Hartout led out with a big bet on the river, to which Andelman folded. Hartout tabled his pocket kings triumphantly to take down a huge pot and extend his chip lead.

Gagne will collect $720 for finishing fifth. Duguay, who dominated this tournament up until the late stages, will pocket $940 for his deep run.

Play has just resumed in level 23, with only six players remaining. Anthony Schneider hit the rail shortly before the last break in seventh place, earning him $420 for his final table appearance.

The chips shifted significantly during the last two levels, dropping former chip leaders Dave Jeanneau-Cyr and Steven Duguay down the leaderboard. Maxime Hartout and Daniel Andelman have been running hot and claimed most of the pots in the lead up to the last break.

As expected, once the money bubble burst there was a series of eliminations that quickly brought about the formation of the final table. The field now counts seven players, and Maxime Hartout has taken the chip lead while Dave Jeanneau-Cyr follows closely in second.

The money bubble has just burst on the Deepstack Turbo Re-entry. Following one level of hand-for-hand play, it came down to a classic tournament situation; a small pair against two over cards, a flip. In this case, Frederic Gagne’s pocket sixes held up against Emmanuel Moreau’s Ace of Diamonds Jack of Spades to bring the field into the money. Expect a series of eliminations in short order, as the remaining players try to run up their stacks and take down this event.

Play has just resumed in level 17, with only 13 players remaining in the Deepstack Turbo Re-entry.

The play tightened up significantly over the last few levels, now that the money bubble is only a few eliminations away. There are now two players, Steven Duguay and Dave Jeanneau-Cyr, vying for the chip lead with less than a small blind separating these two players. Duguay had been in the driver’s seat for most of the afternoon and made an impressive recovery after losing a significant portion of his stack in level 13 to reclaim the lead by a razor-thin margin.

The Deepstack Turbo Re-entry has just entered its fourteenth level of play, and only 23 players are left in contention. The chips have shifted significantly since the last break, as the two chip leaders, Steven Duguay and Louis Cesar, each hit rough patches and have fallen from their former heights. There are now several players contending for the chip lead; it’s become a tight race!

The current chip average now gets players a little more than 23 big blinds, as the money bubble comes into sight on the horizon.

Here is an updated look at the action from level 13:

The action in the Deepstack Turbo Re-entry has kept up the breakneck pace set at the outset of play, reducing the field to only 40 players at the beginning of level 12.

The chip leader at the first break, Steven Duguay, has managed to not only maintain the pole position but has also increased his lead over the field. With a stack approaching 114 big blinds, he is head and shoulders above the rest.

The blinds have caught up to the field, as the current chip average provides slightly more than 22 big blinds, so the remaining players will have to stay busy to get out ahead of them.

The effects of the today’s turbo format are being felt throughout the tournament hall, as table after table breaks and the field continues to shrink. After nine levels of play, only 52 players remain in contention. The blinds are already catching up to the field; the current chip average provides 25 big blinds, which means that many players are working with far less than that.

Here is a look at the action from level 8:

Play has just resumed in level 7, following the first break of the day and the end of the late registration and re-entry period. After a late rush at the cashier, the total number of entries grew to 90, putting lots of chips in play for the 70 remaining players to go get.

The early levels were full of wild action that had an abundance of multi-way all ins, which allowed some lucky players to multiply their starting stacks. Foremost among them is the current chip leader, Steven Duguay, who found ways to more than quadruple his starting stack. As play resumes, Duguay is sitting comfortably with 132 big blinds in his possession.

The Deepstack Turbo Re-entry has brought out a huge field of players, who have made a total of 82 entries so far. New players and re-entries are rolling in by the minute. Players have until 1:45pm to (re-)enter this single-day event.

The prize pool guarantee of $5,000 has already surpassed, the only remaining question is whether or not this event will double its guarantee.
