PL Omaha 3 Lives Re-entry Champion: Philippe Beaudoin

    February 2, 2020February 12, 2020 | 10:15pm | Playground

Event #19 of the 2020 World Cup of Cards was the $300 +$30 PL Omaha 3 Lives Re-entry tournament that featured a $10,000 guaranteed prize pool. When the late registration period came to a close, there were a total of 65 entries, allowing the prize pool to swell to $18,915. All nine players on the final table would be in the money, with a min-cash in ninth paying out $570, and $4,905 in the top spot for the event champion.

The night was action packed as players had “three life chips”, allowing them to choose whether or not they wanted to start the tournament with a full 30,000 chips stack, or, only use once life chip at a time, each with a value of 10,000 chips. By the time the first break came around, Ayana Massa had a substantial lead over the rest of the pack but later on she flopped trip sixes against John Huynh and lost her stack on the river when Huynh’s trip sixes boated up.

John Huynh then kept winning pot after pot and by the second break, he was way out in front of the others, followed in second place by Philippe Beaudoin. Huynh stayed in the top spot and by the time that the final table came to be, he had a massive lead over the other eight players, with almost 40% of all of the chips in play. It appeared that it might be an easy win for him as play began.

Huynh lost ground on the final table and fell in fourth place, collecting $2,180 for his efforts. It was Nohad Teilani, Goran Brestovac and Philippe Beaudoin who were final three, but when Brestovac flopped the nuts, he lost on the river to Teilani and exited in third for $2,860. Heads-up play between Teilani and Beaudoin started with Teilani having a substantial chip lead. Beaudoin was a true fighter and he never gave up, refusing to just roll over and fade away. The heads-up battle was truly epic and it lasted quite some time and when Beaudoin flopped quads in two back-to-back hands, he took over the lead.

On the final hand of play, Beaudoin flopped the nut straight with 8 of Clubs 9 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs 10 of Spades on a 5 of Hearts 7 of Diamonds 6 of Hearts flop and potted all in, finding a call by Teilani who was open-ended with 4 of Spades 5 of Clubs Jack of Diamonds King of Diamonds, but never improved with the Ace of Spades turn and 10 of Diamonds river, crowning a champion in Event #19, Philippe Beaudoin!

Event #19 Champion: Philippe Beaudoin, $4,905

    Second Place: Nohad Teilani, $3,750

Huynh hits a lucky river to eliminate Vigderhous

    February 2, 2020February 2, 2020 | 1:55am | Playground

On a 9 of Clubs 4 of Hearts 2 of Hearts flop, Dan Vigderhous moved his stack forward and was all in. John Huynh, playing a stack of just over 600,000 chips (almost 30% of the chips in play), made the call.

Vigderhous: 2 of Spades 9 of Hearts 3 of Clubs 5 of Hearts
Huynh: King of Spades King of Diamonds 2 of Clubs Ace of Diamonds

Vigderhous had flopped two pair and was also open-ended plus outs to a flush draw. Huynh had pocket kings. The Jack of Diamonds turn was clean but the King of Clubs river was lucky for Huynh as he made trip kings. Vigderhous’s tournament life has unfortunately now come to an end.

On a 6 of Clubs 3 of Hearts 6 of Spades flop, all the chips went in from both Ayana Massa and John Huynh:

Massa: Ace of Hearts 6 of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds 7 of Spades
Huynh: Ace of Diamonds 6 of Hearts Queen of Clubs Jack of Hearts

Both had flopped trip-sixes and neither had a re-draw to a flush. The 2 of Diamonds turn didn’t change anything but the Jack of Spades river gave a boat to Huynh. Huynh’s stack covered Massa and she wished all the other players at her table “good luck” as she exited the tournament room.

The turnout tonight has been outstanding with already 57 entries and late registration is still open for a little while longer.

On table 38, four players paid the blind to see the flop.  When the dealer put out Jack of Clubs 8 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds Philippe Beaudoin opened for 1,200, and was three-bet to 5,000 by Alexandre Lajoie. Kevin MacDonald then moved all in for 8,800 and both Beaudoin and Lajoie made the call. The turn fell the 10 of Hearts and Beaudoin checked, followed by an all in pot by Lajoie and a snap-call  by Beaudoin. The river was the 4 of Clubs.

Beaudoin opened up Jack of Hearts Jack of Diamonds King of Spades 6 of Spades for a flopped boat, and Lajoie busted out. Kevin MacDonald had only been playing his first life chip and he is still in the game with 20,000 chips. Lajoie has re-entered so he is still in contention in Event #19.

There will be a break coming up shortly and we will produce the first leaderboard of the night right after the break.
