    Big Bounty Champion: Sebastien Vezina

    February 1, 2020February 12, 2020 | 5:10am | Playground

Event #17 of the 2020 World Cup of Cards was the $100 + $60 + $500 Big Bounty Re-entry tournament. This tournament was not for the faint at heart as it featured non-stop all in action right from the get go. There was a $30,000 guaranteed prize pool and when the late registration and re-entry period came to a close, there were a total of 137 entries which brought the prize pool to $79,734! This was made up of $11,234 in payouts to the top seven places, and another $68,500 in $500 bounties.

By the first break, local Tu Kham Tran had climbed to the top of the leaderboard and already had five bounty chips. As the night moved on, the lead changed and it was Dilo Hussein who now held the top spot, with more than four times the average stack. As a matter of interest, five of players on the first leaderboard of the night managed to keep growing their stacks and they made it to the final table.

At the next break, Hussein had increased his lead, and the four others who shared a spot on the leaderboard were still there with him. When the final table was formed, there were a few short stacks who ended up busting out out in rapid succession. Once the players were in the money, the pace slowed down a little as although the main focus of the tournament was to secure as many $500 bounty chips as possible, there was still another $3,800 up top for the eventual champion.

Dilo Hussein maintained a strong lead until he lost two key hands and he ultimately fell in fifth place. Once play became four-handed, the players reached an ICM deal as follows:

First Name Last Name Stack ICM Payouts:
    FrancoisRoy378,000$1,775
    Michele Pengue996,000$2,325
    SebastienVezina1,251,000$2,520
    Kyle Turner800,000$2,140

With the top four payouts secured, play moved on until the tournament went heads-up between Michele Pengue and Sebastien Vezina. Both players really wanted to win the trophy and they fought a tough battle heads-up. After Pengue lost a little ground and Vezina had him covered, the final hand came to play when Pengue moved all in with Jack of Spades 10 of Spades and was called by Vezina with Ace of Diamonds 5 of Hearts. Pengue would need some help but the 4 of Diamonds 9 of Diamonds 3 of Hearts did not provide any assistance to him. The Ace of Spades turn made top pair for Vezina and the 5 of Spades river secured the win, and event #17 of the World Cup of Cards crowned a champion, Sebastien Vezina.

Big Bounty Champion: Sebastien Vezina, $3,004 (plus bounties)

Second Place: Michele Pengue, $2,325 (plus bounties)

Francois Roy was a tough competitor who played a great game. After the ICM deal was reached, when he picked up a 9 of Hearts 9 of Clubs he put his chips in and was called by Michele Pengue with Ace of Diamonds 8 of Spades. The flop came 8 of Diamonds Ace of Hearts 3 of Hearts and with Pengue making two pair on the flop, Roy was drawing to two outs. He bricked on the Jack of Diamonds turn and Queen of Clubs river and exits in third place.

    Fourth Place: Francois Roy, $1,775

    Third Place: Kyle Turner, $2,140

In a dramatic turn of events, Dilo Hussein has just been eliminated in fifth place. Hussein had called an open shove by Michele Pengue while holding pocket tens, but to his dismay, Pengue had cowboys (KK). The hand cost him close to 350,000 chips. Then he lost another 250,000 chips when Kyle Turner bested him when Turner had pocket tens.

After losing the major portion of his stack, he put it in with Queen of Clubs 10 of Clubs and walked into Francois Roy’s Jack of Spades Jack of Hearts. Roy flopped a set on a Ace of Hearts Jack of Diamonds 7 of Clubs flop, and although Hussein picked up outs to a straight on the 9 of Hearts turn, the 6 of Diamonds river was a brick and his run came to an end in fifth place.

    Fifth place: Dilo Hussein, $850

A little bit earlier Fadi Al Akzam was sent to the rail in sixth place.

Stuart Kinnen had a lot of fun playing tonight and was stoked when he picked up two bounties earlier on when he flopped a boat in a four-way all in. He put his chips in right now with Ace of Hearts 10 of Hearts and was called by Francois Roy who had King of Clubs Jack of Spades. The flop came Jack of Clubs 2 of Hearts 5 of Hearts making a pair for Roy, and the 8 of Spades turn and 10 of Spades river weren’t enough to keep Linnen alive.

    Seventh place: Stuart Linnen, $500

Patrrick Mailloux did his best while playing a short stack. He picked up Jack of Clubs Jack of Spades and open shoved but with only a 31,000 stack, Kyle Turner made the call with Ace of Hearts 2 of Hearts and hit his ace on the 3 of Clubs Ace of Diamonds 9 of Spades flop. The Queen of Diamonds turn and 7 of Clubs river didn’t help Mailloux, and unfortunately he finishes on the bubble in eighth position.

    Eighth place: Patrick Mailloux

Well that was fun! Action started when Ian Monahoyios open shoved from early position. Stuart Linnen, playing a stack of 129,000 also shoved. The action was then on Michele Pengue who joined the party by throwing in his bounty chip. Roberto Parent looked at the action and announced “OK, I am also all in”.

Monahoyios: King of Diamonds Queen of Clubs
Linnen: 9 of Spades 9 of Clubs
Pengue: Ace of Diamonds King of Spades
Parent: King of Clubs King of Hearts

Parent was in the lead with his pocket kings and Pengue had the big slick, both premium hands. But it was Linnen who flopped gold when the dealer fanned out 5 of Spades 5 of Hearts 9 of Hearts, making him a boat! With all the kings already out on the table, Parent was drawing dead but Pengue still had outs if he could only hit runner-runner five-five or ace-ace. The 6 of Spades turn and 3 of Diamonds river sealed the deal for Linnen who picked up his first two bounty chips of the tournament, along with a huge pile of chips to add to his stack. Pengue started the hand with more than 300,000 so he still has a higher than average stack.
