8-Max Bounty Re-entry Champion: Janet Slaughter

    January 30, 2020 | 5:19am | Playground

The $100 + $15 +$50 8-Max Bounty Re-entry was a great success. The evening began with a rush of entries and once late registration was closed, there were a total of 339 entries to increase the $20,000 guarantee to $32,374 and include the top 43 in the money.

The field was reduced fairly quickly as players took an aggressive approach in hopes of collecting as many $50 bounty chips as possible. Janet Slaughter took the early chip lead and while she fell behind after the second break, she later rejoined the leaderboard and eventually made it to the final table. Will Johnston and Tony Capone also frequented the leader board throughout the night.

The first four eliminations at the final table happened almost immediately after forming. Eddie Daldalian was the next to go in fifth place for a cool $2,090. Pengyu Yu was eliminated in fourth place to be awarded $2,640. This left Janet Slaughter, Will Johnston, and Tony Capone to round out the top three.

Slaughter was fearless, shoving more than any other player at the final table and somehow always coming out on top. Capone fell victim to her forceful play to go home in third with $3,400. After a few hands of chips going back and forth, Johnston and Slaughter agreed to an ICM deal which would award Johnston with $5,560, Slaughter with $5,455, and $600 extra to the winner.

The last hand of play saw Slaughter shove all-in which Johnston called. Slaughter opened up Ace of Spades 3 of Hearts and Johnston King of Hearts 2 of Clubs The board read Ace of Diamonds 8 of Spades 9 of Hearts 7 of Hearts King of Clubs to give Slaughter the higher pair with two aces. Slaughter’s bold style of play paid off in the end to crown her the champion. Congratulations!

    Last hand of play:

    Second place: Will Johnston, $5,560

    Third place: Tony Capone, $3,400

Nicolas Majdalani was the first to go at the final table. He finished in 9th place to be awarded $640. Miguel Goncalo was next in eighth for $890 and Jenn Brooks in seventh place for $1,210.

Ian Armorer had one of the smaller stacks at the table when he went heads-up against Will Johnston. Ian opened pocket jacks to Johnston’s ace-ten. The board read King of Diamonds Ace of Hearts 7 of Clubs 8 of Diamonds 9 of Diamonds giving Johnston a pair of aces to win the hand and send Armorer home in 6th for $1,610.

    Five remain.

Only 19 players remain in level 20. Nicolas Majdalani has come from behind to build up a huge stack and collect multiple bounty chips. Majdalani eliminated Michel Pouliot in 25th before taking on one of the former chip leaders, Ernest Kelly, in a heads-up battle.

Kelly shoved pre-flop with 202,000 in chips, Majdalani called. Kelly opened up 4 of Spades 4 of Hearts and Majdalani Ace of Spades Queen of Spades The board flopped 9 of Spades Ace of Clubs 6 of Clubs to Majdalani’s delight. Kelly held his breath for the turn but he didn’t get what he hoped for with 8 of Diamonds The river revealed Ace of Diamonds giving Majdalani three of a kind to Kelly’s two pairs. Kelly finished in 24th for $220.

    Play continues…

Level 16 has slowed the pace as players are just four spots from reaching the money. The remaining small stacks are definitely feeling the pressure from a handful of competitors who have taken control of their tables to build some pretty extensive stacks.

66 players remain in level 14.  The pace of the tournament has moved relatively quickly up til now but there’s still plenty of poker to be played. Hopefully players are heavily caffeinated because it’s looking like they have a long night ahead.

There’s a new chip leader on the floor as the leaderboard has completely shifted since the last break. Abram Logasy has built a huge stack of 360,000 to move him to first place but Ernest Kelly is hot on his heels. Kelly is just a hair behind with 355,500. Both players won multiple pots throughout the last few levels to surpass their competitors while collecting a few bounty chips along the way.
