    6-Max 50/50 Bounty Re-entry Champion: Justin Miller

    December 17, 2019December 17, 2019 | 11:49am | Playground

    The closing event of Playground’s 9-Year Anniversary Series, the $100 + $20 + $100 6-Max 50/50 Bounty Re-entry, attracted a huge field of players for this single-day event.

As with many other bounty events, the action-inducing format led to some wild action in the early levels of play. Players raced to collect bounties and build their stacks, which led to 40 re-entries along the way. By the time the late registration and re-entry period closed, there were 119 players remaining out of 191 total entries. The large turnout allowed 24 players to reach the money, where the prizes ranged from $170 to $3,844 for the eventual champion.

The story of the early stages of play was Tu Kham Tran’s dominant play. Tran wasted no time building his stack and maintained the top position on the leaderboard all the way to the final table. But there was a lot of poker left to be played at that stage, which is when Tran faded and Justin Miller rose to prominence.

Miller had flown under the radar for most of the evening, as he navigated the treacherous waters filled with bounty hunters. Once at the final table, Miller maintained his solid play and started to catch some hands. This combination allowed Miller to send a series of players to the rail, as the tournament culminated with a heads-up match between Miller and Peter Liakopoulos. It proved to be a short battle, as the mounting blinds helped bring about the end of play. Miller had a significant chip lead, and the two players were all in preflop before long. On the final hand, Miller had Liakopoulos dominated, and Miller’s ace-high prevailed. On top of any bounties he collected along the way, Miller took home an additional $3,844 in prize money and the coveted 9-Year Anniversary Series ring. Congratulations!

The field is down to the last seven players which means it’s time for the final table. Nicholas Soller went all in with pocket sevens against Tu Kham Tran but came up short as Tran came up with two pairs. Soller goes home in 8th place with $530.

The field is down to the final eleven players as level 19 comes to a close. Although Tu Kham Tran has a considerable stack, its hard to tell if he is in the lead as a number of competitors have doubled their stacks.

The final table will begin once seven players remain.

Play has resumed after the third break of the night with 17 players remaining. Tu Kham Tran has sustained his lead through 17 levels and shows no signs of slowing down. Tran’s stack of 550,000 in chips is currently worth about 91 big blinds and he has doubled the chip average. Rong Xu is close behind in second after knocking out a few competitors to build his stack and collect their bounties.

The field is 12 eliminations away from being in the money, so naturally play has slowed. Patrick Slight went into level 15 knowing he had to make some big moves if he wanted to add to his short stack. Slight shoved all-in against one of the current chip leaders, Abdul Dandachli.

Slight flipped a Queen of Spades Ace of Clubs against Dandachli’s 10 of Hearts Jack of Clubs. The board read 9 of Diamonds 4 of Clubs King of Diamonds 9 of Clubs 5 of Spades, which didn’t do much for either player but Slight was able to survive another round with an ace high.

Players are back in the field after the second break of the night. Tu Kham Tran continues to lead the chip race with an impressive stack of 302,000 in chips. Tran holds a considerable margin over his opponents at the moment but anything can happen especially with the aggressive style of play used in a bounty tournament.

64 players continue to battle it out as level 11 rolls on. The short stacks are making big moves in order to stay alive and collect as many bounty chips as possible. Play is still moving at a relatively fast pace with a lot of bold bluffs and all ins all around.

Welcome to the $100 + $20 +$100 6-Max 50/50 Bounty Re-entry! This is the final event of the Playground 9-Year Anniversary Series, wrapping up eight days of exciting tournament poker with a guaranteed prize pool of $20,000.

Competitors will begin with 25,000 in chips and play 6-handed through 20-minute blinds. All players will receive one $100 bounty chip for each player they eliminate from the tournament. Bounty chips can also serve as an all-in chip, meaning that if one is included in any bet or raise, the player will be irrevocably all-in. For all bounty tournaments, the prize pool includes both the traditional prize pool plus the value of each bounty chip players are able to acquire.

This is a re-entry event with unlimited re-entries permitted until the beginning of level seven at 9:15pm. Re-entry is permitted for any player that loses their chips or chooses to forfeit their stack. The final table will begin once seven players remain.

Play has just begun, good luck to all players!
