    6-Max Re-entry Champion: Nazo Maghakian

    December 16, 2019December 17, 2019 | 9:16pm | Playground

Event #6 of the 9-Year Anniversary Series, the $100 + $10 6-Max Re-entry, had a great turnout that contributed a total of 92 entries to this single-day event.

The players sprinted out of the gate this afternoon, which helped break the ice on the re-entries before the end of this third level of play. By the time the late registration and re-entry period ended, there had been 23 re-entries. After the first break of the day, it was David Bonneau who rose to ascendance, establishing a huge chip lead over the field. Bonneau maintained his chip lead all the way to the final table.

At the final table, Bonneau started with the chip lead, but the stacks quickly leveled out. By the time seven players remained, the stacks were nearly even. The remaining players recognized the situation and negotiated an ICM deal of the remaining prize pool that distributed most of the prize money, leaving pride, bragging rights and the 9-Year Anniversary Series ring on the line. From there, the chips went in easily, quickly reducing the field to the two finalists.

When heads-up play began, Nazo Maghakian and Yonatan Aloni were nearly even in chips. Each with plenty of big blinds at their disposal, these two players kept their focus and composure, ready to play their best when it mattered most. During heads-up play, Maghakian was clearly the aggressor and took possession of lots of chips without showdown. Eventually, Maghakian established a 2:1 chip lead and the mounting blinds changed the dynamics of play, which culminated in a preflop all in. It proved to be a flip, one that landed on Maghakian’s side to give him the win. Congratulations!

    6-Max Re-entry Champion: Nazo Maghakian, $1,594

The remaining players in the 6-Max Re-entry have just agreed to an ICM chop of the remaining prize pool. Their deal leaves an additional $350 for the eventual winner, as well as the coveted 9-Year Anniversary Series ring.

The remaining prize pool will be distributed according to the following table.

Rho out in seventh, Berthelette busts in sixth

    December 16, 2019 | 6:54pm | Playground

The final table has already produced two eliminations.

Christian Rho was the first to hit the rail, shortly after doubling up Gaetan Perreault. A couple of hands later, Rho moved all in over the top of David Bonneau’s button raise, and Bonneau made the call.

Rho: 3 of Spades 6 of Spades

Bonneau: 8 of Spades 9 of Spades

Board: Jack of Spades 8 of Hearts 5 of Clubs 3 of Hearts 4 of Hearts

Rho will collect $420 for his final table appearance.

Not long after, Sylvain Berthelette busted following a preflop all in against Yonaton Aloni.

Aloni: 10 of Hearts 10 of Clubs

Berthelette: King of Hearts 8 of Hearts

Board: Jack of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds 5 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds 5 of Spades

Berthelette will take home $550 for his sixth place finish.

Following the bubble deal, a series of players hit the rail in quick succession to bring about the formation of the final table.

The seven finalists are assured of a payout of at least $420 at this point, but everyone is gunning for the top prize of $2,164.

After a brief delay for hand-for-hand play, the remaining players in the 6-Max Re-entry proposed a bubble deal. According to the terms of their agreement, $10 will be removed from each position to pay thirteenth place $120.

Regular play has resumed, with everyone in the money.

The players have just returned from their third break of the afternoon, and the field is only one elimination away from reaching the money.

David Bonneau, the longtime chip leader in this event, continues to lead but by a less striking margin than earlier. The mounting blinds have pressured the short stacks and cause significant turnover on the leaderboard, as Bonneau is the only player who kept his spot in the top stacks in play. Bonneau is followed by two players, Gaetan Perreault and Yann Filion, who were fortunate enough to win big pots and double their stacks on the last hand before the break.

The 6-Max Re-entry is now into its thirteenth level of play. Only 20 players are still in the running, and the money bubble is fast approaching.

The top 12 players will make the money this afternoon, with all competitors vying for the top prize of $2,174 as well as the coveted 9-Year Anniversary Series ring.

The blinds are beginning to catch up to the field, as an average stack provides 23 big blinds. The tension will be mounting from here as the relatively short stacks and impending money bubble will crank up the pressure.

Here is a look at the action from level 12:

The action has just resumed in level 11, and there are only 32 players left in contention.

The last few levels before the break saw the 6-Max Re-entry maintain the high pace set earlier in the afternoon. The players have been putting determined, aggressive poker on display, with no pot being awarded uncontested. Three-bets have become standard at this point, as the players find ways to navigate their way through this short-handed event with the hopes of reaching the money.

For the time being, one player has separated himself from the pack. David Bonneau, who got off to a fast start this afternoon, has since found ways to pick up speed and build up a stack of more than double the current chip average. Bonneau is the only player with a six-figure stack, which puts him in great position for a deep run.

As promised, the 6-Max Re-entry has delivered a lot of fast action so far this afternoon. With slightly more than three hours of play in the books, there are only 43 players left in contention from a starting field of 92 entries.

The chip leader at the last break, Thierry Dauphinais, was been unable to maintain the fast pace he set out with prior to the brake, allowing a new chip leader to emerge. David Bonneau, who sat third in chips at the break, has shifted into another gear and sent a series of players to the rail during the last two levels to take a significant chip lead over the field.

Play has just resumed in level 7, following the first break of the day in the 6-Max Re-entry.

New players and re-entries continued to fill in the ranks right up until play resumed and the late registration and re-entry period came to an end. But there was time for hits event to collect 23 re-entries, which pushed the total number of entries to 92. This huge turnout has nearly doubled the prize pool guarantee of $5,000.

The current chip leader, Thierry Dauphinais, managed to nearly quadruple his starting stack in the early levels and is now playing slightly more than 95 big blinds.

The 6-Max Re-entry has just entered its third level of play, and the ice has been broken on the re-entries.

Players have been steadily filing in to the tournament hall since the outset of play, bringing the total number of entries to 50. This figure has brought the prize pool up to its guarantee, with roughly 90 minutes remaining in the late registration and re-entry period.

Although the blinds are still low, those in attendance have been playing big pots since the action started at noon. To be successful in this format, players need to be involved early and often because the blinds make their way around the tables quickly. The players have clearly adjusted their ranges accordingly, setting up an action-packed afternoon.
