The timer has just sounded to indicate the beginning of level 7, with nearly 100 players left in contention on Day 1I.

Even more than in previous starting flights, re-entries have been popular today, as there have been 30 re-entries so far with more than two hours to go in the late registration and re-entry period.

After more than three hours of play, the chip average still provides nearly 58 big blinds at this stage, ensuring significant depth of play for most players in the field.

Here is a look at the action from level 6:

The action has just resumed in level 5, with nearly 100 players still in the running on Day 1I.

This flight’s current chip leader, Donald Bilow, sprinted out of the gate to run up a stack of nearly quadruple the starting amount, good for slightly more than 240 big blinds at this point. But Bilow wasn’t the only player to have a successful start to the day, as six players in the field managed to more than double their starting stacks.

New players and re-entries keep filing in for this flight, putting over 12 million in chips in play for the 98 remaining players to fight for.

New players and re-entries keep rolling in on Day 1I, bringing the total number of entries just shy of the century mark after less than three levels of play.

Those already in attendance came to play this afternoon. Three-bets and big pots quickly became the early norm, and 7 re-entries have already occurred as a result.

Here is a look at some of the action from level 2:

Day 1I is shaping up to be a tremendously popular starting flight.

Through one level of play, there have already been 66 entries, including three re-entries. The large turnout has put over 6 million in chips in play at this early stage, and many more are sure to follow before the late registration and re-entry period ends at 4:30pm.

The Grand Prix Canada permits unlimited re-entries until the end of the late registration period on each Day 1, which will be at 4:30pm for Day 1I. Re-entry is permitted for any player that loses all their chips or chooses to forfeit their stack. A player may play additional Day 1s even if they have survived a previous Day 1 with chips. Players who qualify for Day 2 more than once will resume play on Day 2 with their largest qualifying stack; all other qualifying stacks will be forfeited. Players would, however, retain the associated cash prize for every forfeited stack.

    It’s time for Day 1I!

The 9-Year Anniversary Series will be picking up speed this afternoon with another popular starting flight for the marquee event of the series, the $200 + $20 Grand Prix Canada. Offering a guaranteed prize pool of $500,000, the Grand Prix Canada provides outstanding value for a relatively modest buy-in thanks to a player-friendly structure and 19 starting flights.

Players will start with 100,000 in chips for an afternoon of 10-handed play. Each starting flight will play 30-minute levels until one in seven entries remain, at which point the players will be in the money and bag their chips for Day 2.

The Grand Prix Canada is a re-entry event with unlimited re-entries permitted until the end of the late registration period on each Day 1 , which will be at 4:30pm. The combined Day 1 results can be found here.

After less than 10 minutes of play, there are already 41 players involved in this flight. It’s shaping up to be one of the more popular flights to date. Good luck to all!

Sabrah leads the 16 Day 1H qualifiers into Day 2

    December 13, 2019December 13, 2019 | 2:29am | Playground

Tonight’s Day 1H attracted a total of 115 entries (including 29 re-entries) which sent 16 qualifiers with a bag to Day 2. The tournament saw Ali Sabrah take an early lead and maintain the lead through the second break. He played a large stack all night long and was always in one of the top positions on the leaderboards. He put together a bag of 1,161,000 chips to close out the day in the top spot.

The tournament ended on a wild hand when action folded to Houssam Molhen in the small blind who completed his option. Matthew Witterick decided to shove his big blind, and, Molhem looked at him and said “I think you are making a move since we are on the bubble. I also think that I am way ahead of you”. Molhem tanked for close to two minutes and finally decided to make the call.

Witterick: King of Diamonds 6 of Spades
Molhem: Ace of Clubs 10 of Clubs

Molhem was right in thinking that it was a move that Witterick was making and that he was indeed way ahead of him. The flop came 9 of Diamonds 10 of Spades 4 of Spades and Molhem hit his ten. All looked good until the fateful turn when the dealer put out the King of Hearts. The river was the Queen of Hearts and Molhem’s stack was sent to Witterick and the tournament came to an end, with Molhem being sent to the rail.

    The top five stacks were:

    1. Ali Sabrah, 1,651,000
    2. Matthew Witterick, 1,387,000
    3. David Sorgente, 1,182,000
    4. Pascal Monarque, 1,100,000
    5. Charles Macdonald, 850,000

Day 2 plays out this coming Sunday, December 15 at 1:00pm.

Good luck to all of the competitors!

As the field is thinning out chips have been moving around and although most of the leaders from earlier on still have good stacks, we noticed that Han Xing Chen has lost a lot of ground and no longer holds a top spot.,

Chuck Levros just had a nice double-up when he called Brian Massender’s all in for exactly 200,000. Massender had been shoving quite a few hands over the last level and this time Levros felt he was ahead and therefore he made the call.

Massender: Ace of Hearts 9 of Clubs
Levros: Ace of Clubs 10 of Diamonds

The flop came Queen of Clubs 9 of Spades 10 of Clubs, giving Levros a pair of tens to better Massender’s pair of nines. The turn 6 of Clubs and river King of Hearts were bricks and Levros is now sitting on a healthy stack, while Massender was sent to the rail.

    Chuck Levros

On the next hand Ali Sabrah , the chip leader from the first two breaks, opened from 12,000 to 25,000 and found calls from both Pascal Monarque in the small blind and Steven Taylor in the big blind. The flop fell Ace of Spades 3 of Clubs Jack of Spades and Sabrah continued out for 45,000, finding a call from Monarque. On the 9 of Clubs turn the action went check-check. The river brought the 3 of Diamonds and Monarque check-called a bet of 100,000 by Sabrah, who responded with a “good call” comment to Monarque. Monarque had Queen of Diamonds Jack of Clubs for for mid-pair on the flop and Sabrah mucked his hand, mentioning that he had pocket deuces.

A break is coming up soon and we will be publishing a new leaderboard; stay tuned.

There has been a lot of action on Table 37 and chips are moving around the table.

With blinds at 1,500/3,000,  Han Xing Chen limped in as did Costa Psallidas. Marc Lebel then raised it up to 10,000. Both Chen and Psallidas made the call. The flop fell 10 of Spades 8 of Diamonds 4 of Clubs and Chen checked as did Psallidas. Lebel continued out with a bet of 10,000 and both players called. The turn came the 2 of Clubs and this time it checked all around. On the Jack of Diamonds river, Chen checked and Psallidas picked up a pile of chips, making a bet of 38,000 chips. Lebel folded and at first it appeared that Chen might be folding as well, however when Psallidas started asking Chen some questions, Chen decided to make the call.

Chen opened his hand showing Ace of Diamonds 10 of Hearts, and Psallidas mucked and was heard saying “good call”.

    Mandanici-Turcot leads 18 Day 2 qualifiers from Day 1G

    December 12, 2019 | 10:07pm | Playground

After 18 levels of play, 18 Day 2 qualifiers have emerged from Day 1G.

Today’s turnout contributed a total of 123 entries, bringing the total number of entries to the Grand Prix Canada to 1,217, with six more starting flights to go over the next two days. To see the full schedule, click here.

In today’s flight, Jason Mandanici-Turcot, who is no stranger to success in Playground’s events, found his stride in the late stages of play to run up a flight-leading stack of 1,650,000 in chips. Mandanici-Turcot’s stack puts him in the upper echelon of the Day 2 qualifiers, but he has a long way to go to reel in the overall chip leader, Nathan Henry, who has 3.1 million in chips waiting for Day 2.
