Flibotte-Blanchard bags 2,000,000 chips to lead 15 Day 1C qualifiers into Day 2

    December 10, 2019December 10, 2019 | 2:19am | Playground

Day 1C of the $200 + $20 Grand Prix Canada attracted a total of 103 entries (including 25 re-entries) of which 15 players bagged and tagged for Day 2.

There were a handful of players who dominated the leaderboards all night long and in the end, most of the same players were able to bag the biggest stacks to head into Day 2. The chip leader for day 1C is Maxime Flibotte-Blanchard, who bagged the tournament lead so far with exactly 2,000,000 in chips.

The top five stacks from 1C are:

    • Maxime Flibotte-Blanchard, 2,000,000
    • Francois Gagne, 1,474,000
    • Maxime Berthiaume, 860,000
    • Real Cantin, 833,000
    • Luc Ratelle, 797,000
    Maxime Flibotte-Blanchard
    Francois Gagne
    Maxime Berthiaume
    Real Cantin

There are more Day 1 starting flights playing out every day this week. To see the list of all of the remaining Day 1 flights, please see the tournament structure sheet by clicking here.

To see the combined Day 1 results, click here. (NB: tonight’s results will be added to the list late in the morning on Tuesday).

A player may play additional Day 1s even if they have survived a previous Day 1 with chips. Players who qualify for Day 2 more than once will resume play on Day 2 with their largest qualifying stack; all other qualifying stacks will be forfeited. Players would, however, retain the associated cash prize for every forfeited stack.

Day 2 plays out this coming Sunday, December 15 at 1:00pm.

Good luck to all of the competitors!

The players have just returned from a break and there are two players seated to next to each other who are both named Maxime fighting for the lead. Maxime Flibotte-Blanchard is in the driver’s seat with 1,099,000 chips, and Maxime Berthiaume is right behind him with 1,018,000 chips. These two stacks are approaching double the size of the third place stack held by Francois Gagne.

The tournament is now down to only 36 players, with the top 15 moving on to Day 2 with a guaranteed min-cash. There are some players pulling away from the the rest of the field as they continue to build large stacks. At this point the short stacks are becoming concerned about blinding down, resulting in a lot of all ins across the room. The big stacks have a job to do and they will certainly be doing their best to put pressure on smaller stacks.

Here are the players nursing the bigger stacks in the room:

    Francois Gagne
    Nick Nickoletopoulos
    Maxime Flibotte-Blanchard
    Goran Brestovac
    Real Cantin
    Maxime Berthiaume

The late registration and re-entry period has now come to a close and the total number of entries has reached 103 (including 25 re-entries). The top 15 players will be in the money as they bag for Day 2. This brings the total number of entries from all online and live flights so far to 574 entries.

This is definitely a great start to the Grand Prix Canada. There still remains 14 more day 1 starting flights and with the busiest flights usually taking place later in the week, it is quite possible that the $500,000 guaranteed prize pool may in fact be well surpassed!

With the average chip stack now at 190,700, equal to 38 Big blinds, Francois Gagne, the champion of the Playground 200 during this year’s June Power Weekend, sits on top of the leaderboard with a stack of 639,000 chips, good for 128 big blinds.

With the blinds at 1,500/3,000, Julien Landry opened in early position to 12,000, only to see Patrick Tardif move all in from mid-position for 47,000. When it folded around to Real Cantin sitting on the button, he looked over to see how many chips Landry had in front of him. He thought about for at least 30 seconds and then announced that he was all in. Landry was looking uncomfortable and in the end, he let go of his hand, announcing to the table that he folded pocket eights.

Tardif: Ace of Spades Queen of Spades
Cantin: Queen of Hearts Queen of Diamonds

Tardif would need some serious help as Cantin had a monster. The flop fell 3 of Diamonds 5 of Hearts 2 of Hearts and Tardif now picked up outs to a wheel draw. The 7 of Diamonds turn was of no help but the Ace of Diamonds on the river gave him a badly needed double-up.

There are now 87 entries and with more than 90 minutes left in the late registration (and re-entry) period, it looks at this point as if the field will grow north of 100 entries.

The players are back from their first break of the evening and with an average chip stack sitting just under 120K (60 Big Blinds), Ayana Massa is in the lead having built a stack of 330,500 chips, good for 165 big blinds.

There are now 75 entries (including 9 re-entries) and with another two plus hours to go in the late registration and re-entry period, it appears that there will be quite a few more entries than there were last night in Day 1B. Players have until the start of level 11 at 10:50pm to still jump into the action with a full starting stack.

Here are a few of the players in level four:

    Welcome to Day 1C!

    December 9, 2019December 9, 2019 | 7:01pm | Playground

Welcome to Day 1C of the $200 + $20 Grand Prix Canada, the marquee event of the Playground 9-Year Anniversary Series. This event offers incredible value with it’s $500,000 guaranteed prize pool.

Players start the Grand Prix Canada with 100,000 chips. As tonight’s Day 1C is a turbo flight, the blind levels are 20 minutes long. The play is 10-handed on Day 1. Day 2 starts 9-handed and moves to 8-handed as soon as possible.

This is a re-entry event with unlimited re-entries permitted until the end of the late registration period on each Day 1, which is at the start of level 11 at 10:50pm. Re-entry is permitted for any player that loses all their chips or chooses to forfeit their stack (online flights do not offer the forfeit option). This allows for a great opportunity to see if you can qualify with a larger Day 2 stack by firing more tan one bullet.

The starting flights will play down to when one in seven players remain, at which point the players will be in the money and bag their chips for Day 2.

There were 214 players in today’s Day 1A and another 78 in Day 1B in addition to the online Day 1 starting flights on partypoker.

    Good luck to all competitors!
